WINTERVILLE, NC—Lenoir Community College's volleyball team clinched a decisive victory against their long-standing rivals, Pitt Community College, on August 29. This win comes as a significant boost for Lenoir, especially considering the teams had an even 1-1 split last season.

Match Highlights

The Lancers dominated the match from the outset, winning the first set 25-20. They continued their strong performance in the second set with a 25-12 win before sealing the deal in the third set with a 25-22 victory. The team collectively racked up 26 kills during the match.

Player Standouts

  • Holly Cannon: Contributed 12 serving points, 2 aces, 16 setting assists, 5 kills, and 17 digs.

  • Elizabeth Howell: Added 12 serving points and 2 aces to the tally.

  • Paytyn Jones: Impressed with 8 kills, 3 block assists, and 1 block solo.

  • Mckenzee Moore: Contributed 6 serving points, 2 aces, 2 block assists, and 1 block solo.

  • Hayli Verme: Rounded out the performance with 5 kills and 7 digs.

Season Stats

With this win, Lenoir Community College improves their overall record to 4-2, including a 3-1 record at home. The team has yet to play any conference matches but is gearing up for a crucial home game against Sandhills next Thursday.

Coach's Remarks

"Followed our script well in this match. Serving has improved, and we were able to hit the areas we were calling from the bench. Made some great decisions on ball placement on the attacks. Still have much to work on as we prepare to enter conference matches soon, but great win for the team," said Coach Shelly Barnes.

Lenoir Community College continues to show promise as they prepare for the upcoming conference matches. The next game against Sandhills promises to be another high-stakes match for the Lancers.
