LCC Crushes Mid-Atlantic By 76 Points

For the second time this year, the Lenoir Community College Lancers have faced off against the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs. And for the second time, the Lancers have dominated the Mustangs on the court. The latest game took place Friday evening at home, with the Lancers winning by 76 points. The first matchup's score was even more lopsided, as the Lancers defeated the Mustangs 150-59.

LCC's first-year coach, Matt Grantham, has found a spark with his team to start the year. This win improved the Lancers' record to 9-3 on the season. Coach Grantham now has more wins than last year's team, which finished with an 8-23 record.

Coach Grantham was very proud of his team's effort in the blowout win. “They played really hard, defended, forced a lot of turnovers, and were able to get out and score a lot of baskets in transition,” Coach Grantham said after the game.

The Lancers led the Mustangs 62-34 at halftime and never took their foot off the gas, scoring 82 points in the second half. Freshman #4 Dashaun Hooker led the Lancers with 32 points in the contest. “We were playing together, playing unselfish ball. That’s what happens when you play hard and as a team,” Hooker said after the win. Hooker was joined at the top of the scoring by another fellow teammate from nearby Jacksonville, NC. #10 Ray Mitchell scored 31 points, with a few assists coming from Hooker in the second half.

The Lancers will have one more game before they have a few weeks off for the Christmas break. They will travel to Southwest Virginia Community College this coming Tuesday. After the break, the Lancers will face a difficult schedule and look to continue their momentum.

Coach Grantham, although pleased with his team's record, knows what his team's end goal is. “9-3 is a cute story, but if that's all it is, no one remembers that. We want to pursue a championship. That’s the goal; we're going to keep chasing that all year long,” Grantham stated.
