LCC's Danny Staley Awarded Gilmer Minor III Memorial Scholarship

KINSTON — Lenoir Community College Baseball standout Danny Staley has been named the 2024-2025 recipient of the Gilmer Minor III Memorial Scholarship, an honor established by Baseball Hall of Famer George Whitfield through the LCC Foundation.

The annual scholarship honors the legacy of Gilmer Minor III, a passionate supporter of athletics who played both college football and baseball, by recognizing student-athletes who exhibit strong character and an exceptional work ethic—traits Staley has embodied throughout his LCC career.

Staley, who recently graduated, was a leader both on and off the field. In his final season, he posted a .282 batting average with 33 hits, 27 RBIs, seven doubles, and seven home runs.

“I’m honored to receive this scholarship,” said Staley. “My time at LCC has meant a lot to me, and it feels great to finish strong and be recognized for my hard work.”
