The Weekly Lancer: LCC volleyball heads into conference gauntlet after weekend road sweep
KINSTON — Lenoir Community College volleyball enters one of its toughest stretches of the season with momentum after picking up two wins Saturday.
The Lancers are 12-4 overall and 5-4 in Region 10 Division II play, sitting sixth in the 11-team conference standings.
Lenoir went 3-2 over its most recent five matches, including wins over Wake Tech, Rockingham Community College and Virginia Peninsula Community College.
The Lancers opened the stretch Sept. 12 with a five-set loss to Richard Bland College in Kinston.
Lenoir won the first set 25-22 before Richard Bland responded with a 25-21 victory in the second. The Lancers controlled the third set 25-14, but the Statesmen forced a deciding set with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
Richard Bland finished the match with a 15-10 victory in the fifth.
Freshman Kaydee Hunter led Lenoir with 18 kills, 28 digs and three aces. Kylie Jones recorded 42 assists and four aces, while Madyson Wills finished with nine kills and eight block assists.
Lenoir bounced back Sept. 16 with a 3-1 home victory over Wake Tech.
The Lancers won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-11 before Wake Tech extended the match with a 25-22 victory in the third. Lenoir closed it out with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
Two days later, Forsyth Tech swept the Lancers 25-20, 25-19, 27-25.
Lenoir responded quickly during a two-match road day Saturday.
The Lancers swept Rockingham Community College 3-0 before defeating Virginia Peninsula 3-1. Set scores for both matches had not been posted as of Monday.
Rockingham was a non-conference match, while the victory over Virginia Peninsula improved Lenoir to 5-4 in Region 10 Division II play.
Lenoir’s conference victories have come against Pitt Community College, Louisburg College, Guilford Technical Community College, Wake Tech and Virginia Peninsula.
The Lancers’ conference losses are against Fayetteville Technical Community College, Cape Fear Community College, Richard Bland and Forsyth Tech.
Cape Fear remains one of the strongest measuring sticks from Lenoir’s recent schedule. The Sea Devils swept the Lancers 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 on Sept. 10 in Kinston.
Lenoir now turns its attention toward a difficult closing stretch of September.
The Lancers travel to Davidson-Davie Community College Tuesday for a 6 p.m. Region 10 matchup.
Davidson-Davie enters the week 5-1 in conference play and sits among the top teams in the Region 10 Division II standings.
For Lenoir, Tuesday presents another opportunity to make up ground in a tightly packed conference race.
The Lancers return home Thursday to face Cleveland Community College at 6 p.m. before traveling back to Rockingham Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.
Lenoir then gets another shot at Richard Bland on Sept. 29.
The Sept. 12 loss showed how close the Lancers are to one of the teams near the top of the conference. Lenoir won two of the first three sets before Richard Bland rallied to escape Kinston in five.
Tuesday’s match against Davidson-Davie gives the Lancers another chance to test themselves against a team currently ahead of them in the standings.
Hunter and Jones have been two of Lenoir’s top performers in the statistical reports currently available.
Through 10 matches and 33 entered sets, Hunter has recorded 130 kills, 138 digs and 21 aces while hitting .263. She is averaging 3.94 kills and 4.18 digs per set.
Jones has 292 assists and 26 aces, averaging 8.85 assists per set.
Sophomore Alivia Whitley has 113 kills, while Wills has recorded 23 blocks.
Those season totals remain incomplete because individual statistics have not yet been entered for several matches, including Louisburg, GTCC, Wake Tech, Forsyth Tech and both Sept. 19 contests.
BASEBALL
Lenoir is scheduled to face Fayetteville Tech in another exhibition Friday, Sept. 25. A game time and site had not been listed on the Region 10 schedule.
The Lancers are coming off a 28-23 season in 2025-26, including a 25-17 conference record.
Outfielder Charlie Sindahl earned NJCAA Third Team All-American honors after hitting .461 with 13 home runs and 66 RBIs.
