The Weekly Lancer: Lenoir rallies past Davidson-Davie, eyes another Region 10 test
KINSTON — Lenoir Community College has already surpassed last season’s conference win total, and the Lancers added one of their biggest victories of the season last week.
Lenoir rallied from a two-set deficit Tuesday to defeat Davidson-Davie Community College 3-2 in Thomasville, handing one of Region 10 Division II’s top teams just its second conference loss.
Davidson-Davie controlled the opening two sets, winning 25-10 and 25-15. The Lancers answered by taking the next three, 25-22, 25-23 and 15-11, to complete the comeback.
Lenoir enters Monday night’s road match against Richard Bland College with an official record of 12-4 overall and 5-4 in Region 10 play, good for sixth place in the conference standings.
The Lancers have won two straight.
A major road comeback
The victory at Davidson-Davie stands out because of both the deficit Lenoir erased and the opponent it beat.
Davidson-Davie entered the week near the top of the Region 10 standings and is now 8-2 in conference play. The Storm also swept Lenoir twice last season.
After being outscored 50-25 through the first two sets Tuesday, the Lancers flipped the match.
Lenoir pulled out a close third set, 25-22, then survived another tight finish in the fourth, 25-23. The Lancers carried the momentum into the deciding set and closed the match with a 15-11 victory.
Individual statistics for Lenoir from the match have not yet been entered.
Lancers ahead of last season’s pace
Lenoir finished last season 14-16 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
This year’s team already has five official conference victories, two more than it recorded during the entire 2025 season. The Lancers’ 12 overall wins are also just two shy of matching last season’s total with approximately a month remaining in the regular season.
Lenoir currently sits sixth in the Region 10 Division II standings behind Cape Fear, Davidson-Davie, Forsyth Tech, Richard Bland and Fayetteville Tech.
The official record does not yet include Lenoir’s Sept. 19 victory at Virginia Peninsula Community College.
Lenoir won that match 3-1, taking the sets 25-14, 25-13, 16-25 and 25-7. If that result is eventually added to Lenoir’s official record, the Lancers would improve to 13-4 overall.
Hunter continues strong freshman season
Freshman Kaydee Hunter has been one of Lenoir’s most productive players throughout the season.
Through the 13 matches in which complete statistics have been entered, Hunter has recorded 176 kills, 190 digs and 28 aces. She is averaging 3.91 kills and 4.22 digs per set.
Hunter has also recorded eight kill-dig double-doubles in those 13 matches, including four consecutive posted matches.
Her top performances include 22 kills against Wake Tech and 28 digs against Richard Bland.
Setter Kylie Jones has totaled 400 assists and 30 aces, averaging 8.89 assists per set.
Alivia Whitley has contributed 141 kills and 108 digs, while Madyson Wills has recorded 32 blocks.
Those totals remain incomplete because Lenoir statistics have not been entered for three matches.
Rematch with Richard Bland
The Lancers return to Region 10 action Monday at 6 p.m. at Richard Bland College in South Prince George, Virginia.
It will be a rematch of a five-set battle Sept. 12 in Kinston.
Lenoir won the first and third sets in that meeting before Richard Bland eventually took the deciding fifth set 15-10.
Hunter finished that match with 18 kills and 28 digs, Jones recorded 42 assists, and Wills added nine kills and eight block assists.
Richard Bland enters the rematch 12-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The Statesmen swept Wake Tech and Guilford Tech last week before dropping a five-set match to Forsyth Tech on Saturday.
Lenoir also lost 3-0 during its most recent trip to Richard Bland on Oct. 16, 2025.
A Lenoir victory Monday would move the Lancers to 6-4 in conference play while dropping Richard Bland to 7-3, tightening the race near the top half of the Region 10 standings.
Coming up
Lenoir travels to Pitt Community College on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. after sweeping the Bulldogs in the teams’ first meeting.
The Lancers return home Saturday, Oct. 3 for two matches, hosting Fayetteville Tech at 11 a.m. and Central Carolina at 3 p.m.
Lenoir will then host Guilford Tech for Pink Night on Oct. 6, travel to Wake Tech on Oct. 7 and host Forsyth Tech on Oct. 9.
The makeup date for Lenoir’s postponed match against Cleveland Community College has not yet been announced.
Baseball fall schedule continues
Lenoir’s baseball team remains listed at 0-0 as its fall exhibition schedule continues.
No official score has been posted from the Sept. 25 matchup against Fayetteville Tech at the Campbell Showcase.
The Lancers are scheduled to return to action Oct. 3 at the University of Mount Olive, facing Southeastern at 12:45 p.m. and ECA at 6:15 p.m.
PRO5 is scheduled to visit Lenoir on Oct. 8.
The fall schedule concludes with the Lancer World Series from Oct. 27-29.
