NNS 7-on-7 Showcase Hosted By Team Copper This Saturday, May 4th

Date: Saturday, May 4th
Location: John Paul II High School, Hosted by Team Copper

This coming Saturday, the fields at John Paul II High School will be buzzing with the energy of young athletes as Neuse News Sports presents a thrilling 7-on-7 football tournament, hosted by none other than Team Copper, led by the renowned former NFL star and ECU record breaker, Terrance Copper. This event promises to be a showcase of skill, strategy, speed, and sportsmanship, featuring teams in two age divisions: 18U and 11U.

7 on 7 Football: A Focus on Skill Development

7 on 7 football strips the game down to its passing essentials, removing the linemen and focusing on the quarterback, receivers, and defensive backs. This format is not just about athletic prowess; it emphasizes timing, precision, and teamwork, providing players a unique opportunity to sharpen their passing and coverage skills in a competitive setting.

Team Copper: Football with a Purpose

Under the guidance of Coach Terrance Copper, Team Copper is not just a team but a program that mentors young athletes, emphasizing the development of essential life skills through football. Copper’s extensive experience in the NFL and his passion for coaching have made his team a formidable presence in youth football, known for its disciplined approach, masterful training, and explosive gameplay. Team Copper travels nationally to compete but also to take college visits to help prepare them for the next level. Coach Copper also coaches at Kinston High but trains many different athletes in eastern NC. The team make up of athletes are based mainly through Lenoir and Pitt County.

What to Expect at the Tournament

- Dynamic Matches: Teams will go head-to-head in short, intense games that test their offensive and defensive capabilities. Expect to see high level talent.

- GREAT VIBES: There will be a live DJ with music playing, elite talent, and superb fields.

-ELITE ATHLETES: Some of the best of the best will be playing on the fields. Keep in touch this week as we will highlight some of the standout players coming to compete.

Scoring System

- Scoring Innovations: The tournament features unique scoring rules where defensive plays like interceptions and turnovers are rewarded, adding an extra layer of excitement and competition to the games. Touchdowns are worth 6th points, extra points are one a piece, but if you want to go for two points you can go from the 10-yard line. On defense, interceptions are worth 3 points and making a stop on defense is worth 2 points.

Impact on Athletes and Community

This tournament isn’t just about football; it’s about community and growth. It provides a platform for young athletes to be seen and scouted, potentially opening doors to college scholarships and more. Moreover, it’s a chance for the community to come together to support the youth and enjoy a day of high-quality sports entertainment. Eastern North Carolina is behind when it comes to the passing game in football. ENC rarely have any tournaments, where as in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro teams play every weekend.
