Brandon Battle Departs South Lenoir for Hometown Return to Martin County
DEEP RUN — After three impactful years at South Lenoir High School, Brandon Battle is heading home.
Battle, who served as the head varsity boys basketball coach for the past season and a half—and JV coach prior—announced in a Facebook post that he will be leaving South Lenoir to return to Martin County, where he’ll take on a coaching role closer to his roots.
“I want to take a moment to thank South Lenoir High School for an incredible three years,” Battle wrote. “Teaching and coaching here has been great, and I’m beyond grateful for the relationships I’ve built with students, athletes, staff, and the entire community. Thank you again, South Lenoir. You’ll always have a place in my heart."
Battle’s tenure at South Lenoir was short but unforgettable. Known for his energy on the sidelines and deep commitment to player development, he helped forge lasting memories for the program. That includes a signature victory over 4A Ashley High School during the Brandon Ingram Showcase at Kinston High, as well as last season’s electric home win over rival North Lenoir—a moment that energized the entire Blue Devil gym and community.
South Lenoir principal Elizabeth Pierce praised Battle’s impact on and off the court.
“It is difficult to put into words what Coach Brandon Battle has meant to South Lenoir,” Pierce said in a statement to Neuse News Sports. “His passion and belief in each athlete will not be forgotten. He was an inspiration to each player and helped shape a culture of integrity and accountability. While we are sad to see him go, we are incredibly proud of his accomplishments here and fully support him as he begins his next chapter back home in Martin County. He will always be a Blue Devil and part of our family. We look forward to watching all of the great things he will do for the Gators.”
As Battle closes his chapter in Deep Run, his legacy will be defined not just by wins and upsets, but by the culture and relationships he helped build. His return to Martin County is a homecoming—but South Lenoir will always hold a piece of his heart.
