Washington won the opening two sets 25-19 and 25-16, putting North Lenoir in an early hole. The Hawks responded in the third, fighting through a back-and-forth finish to take the set 26-24 and force a fourth. North Lenoir continued to battle in the fourth, but Washington was able to close out the match with a 25-20 victory. The loss dropped North Lenoir to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in Three Rivers 4A Conference play.
South Lenoir opened East Central 3A/4A Conference play with a strong road performance Wednesday night, sweeping Heide Trask 3-0. The Blue Devils won 25-15, 25-22 and 25-23 to improve to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
North Lenoir jumped ahead 12-0 and carried a 12-6 advantage into halftime, but Ayden-Grifton took control in the second half and scored 24 unanswered points to defeat the Hawks 30-12.
South Lenoir controlled both sides of a three-team cross country meet with East Duplin and Clinton, winning the boys and girls team competitions behind strong performances at the front of each race.

Greene Central had a chance to complete a furious second-half comeback Thursday night, driving inside the Wilson Prep 5-yard line in the final minutes, but the defending NCHSAA 1A state champions made one final stand.

South Lenoir held off North Lenoir 14-12 in the 63rd Braggin Bowl, using a strong Thursday start and clutch defensive plays Monday to reclaim the trophy and improve to 2-0.
Greene Central turned early Goldsboro turnovers into a 43-0 first-quarter lead and finished with a 69-0 shutout. JoJo Sanders scored on offense and defense to help lead the Rams.
North Lenoir improved to 6-1 with a four-set win over Greene Central behind 11 kills from Kennedi Starkie and 28 assists from Maddie Howard.

With only one week of football to evaluate, these will likely be the toughest rankings of the season. As the season progresses, results, strength of schedule and head-to-head matchups will give us a much clearer picture of where each team belongs.
The rankings consider more than just wins and losses. Quality of opponent, margin of victory or defeat, strength of schedule and overall performance are all taken into consideration.
