Sanders scores three ways as Greene Central shuts out Goldsboro

SNOW HILL — Greene Central needed only one snap to take control, turning an opening Goldsboro fumble into points within the first 20 seconds and rolling to a 69-0 win in a game moved up due to weather.
The Rams, who beat Goldsboro 60-0 last season, built a 43-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Goldsboro fumbled the first snap of the game and later fumbled two punts, giving Greene Central short fields inside 20 yards.
Greene Central led 36-0 in the first quarter after a safety caused by Ben Ramsey and Grayson Wicker. JoJo Sanders added a pick-six to make it 43-0.
Greene Central coach Wilson said the Rams “kept our foot on the gas more this week than last” and “came out and improved on the small things.”
The Rams extended the lead to 55-0 by halftime and 61-0 after the third quarter. Greene Central’s defense produced sacks and tackles for loss, with Treylan Eatmon, Kadeen Sutton, Motorro May, Ramsey, Wicker and the defensive line among those credited with key plays.
Sanders had an 18-yard touchdown run, a 20-yard touchdown catch and an interception return for a touchdown.
“Patience,” Sanders said about overcoming adversity from last week. “Coaches always tell me my time going come and today was my day.”
Josh Cetnar finished 3 of 6 passing for 68 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a touchdown. Donovan Ingram rushed for 66 yards on five carries and three touchdowns. Trey Bynum had two catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns, and Cody Gaitor added 60 yards and a touchdown on four carries.
Bynum said he “came out with way more energy and felt like a way better leader.”
Goldsboro blocked three PATs, but the Cougars could not overcome the early turnovers and Greene Central’s field position.
“We had a rough start, it wasn’t a surprise,” Goldsboro coach McClary said. “We have got to be more consistent in practice, the way we practiced this week was a little off, so to see these results were not surprising.”
McClary said Goldsboro worked to simplify things from Week 1 to Week 2.
“Trying to keep it more simple, we have a lot of young guys and inexperienced guys,” McClary said. “We saw where it worked at times but it’s the execution part.”
Greene Central, which opened the season with a win over North Lenoir, plays Wilson Prep at home Thursday, Sept. 3. Goldsboro, which lost to Eastern Wayne last week, plays at Southern Wayne on Friday, Sept. 4.
