Eastern 3A Regional Track & Field Championships Recap
The Eastern Carolina area was well represented at the regional championships, with multiple athletes and relay teams turning in state-qualifying caliber performances while several local programs finished inside the top 10 of the final team standings.

Kinston Delivers Strong Showing
Kinston’s boys finished third overall with 75 points, while the girls placed fourth with 60 points behind a balanced effort across sprints, relays, hurdles, jumps, and throws.
The Vikings swept both 4x100-meter relays, as the girls won in 50.06 and the boys captured gold in 43.26. Kinston’s girls also placed second in both the 4x200 relay (1:45.56) and 4x400 relay (4:17.80), while the boys took third in the 4x200 relay.
Junior Darryl Parham continued his standout postseason by winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.54 after posting the fastest preliminary time. He later added a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles at 40.46. Mee’Kwon Hawkins also scored in both hurdle events for the Vikings.
In the field events, Jalyn Kinsey won the boys shot put with a throw of 47-5, while Riyan Parks added points in both the high jump and triple jump.
On the girls side, Jasmine Prior finished fourth in the 200 meters, while Ijdah Clark-Lanier and Chanel Forbes both scored in the 300 hurdles. Kinston also received scoring performances from M’kayla Jones, Kyrah Lee, J’riyana Edwards, and Londyn Banks in the field events.
Goldsboro Powered by Sprint Success
Goldsboro’s boys finished ninth overall with 28 points, while the girls placed 10th with 22.
Senior Alexandro Innocent led the way with a dominant sprint double, winning the 100 meters in 10.81 and the 200 meters in 21.59 after leading qualifying in both events.
Nieirah Smith produced a podium finish for the girls team, taking third in the 100 meters in 12.82.
Dezerae Thompson scored in the girls 100 hurdles with a fourth-place finish, while Jessica Zelah placed third in the girls 3200 meters with a time of 14:01.88.
Goldsboro also received points from its boys 4x400 relay, boys 4x100 relay, Javari Smith in the 400 meters, and Cortnthian Waters in the shot put.
Greene Central Excels in Field Events
Greene Central’s boys tied for sixth overall with 39 points, while the girls finished 11th with 14.
Senior Deitrich Williams turned in one of the meet’s top individual performances, winning both the high jump and triple jump. Williams cleared 6-8 in the high jump before capturing the triple jump title with a mark of 46-0. He also added a fifth-place finish in the long jump.
Josh Cetnar added points with a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
On the track, Ta’mari Wilcox placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.22, while Kameron Vandiford finished fourth in the 200 meters.
For the girls, Azaria Mumford placed fourth in the long jump and third in the triple jump, while Gabrielle Evans also scored in the long jump.
South Lenoir Cracks Top 10
South Lenoir’s boys finished 10th overall with 25 points, while the girls tied for 12th with 12.
Senior Kole Burkett highlighted the Blue Devils’ meet by winning the boys 400 meters in 50.07.
The boys 4x800 relay team also earned a runner-up finish in 8:41.10, while Jack Rouse placed fourth in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:52.36.
James Miller added points in both the 1600 and 3200 meters.
For the girls, Bryanna Poole earned a third-place finish in the high jump after clearing 5-0, while Kara Harper placed fifth in the discus. Tameya Hooker also scored in the 300 hurdles.
Spring Creek Distance Crew Leads Charge
Spring Creek finished tied for 12th in the girls standings with 12 points and 16th in the boys standings with 13.
The Gators found success in the distance events, led by Saul Delgado’s third-place finish in the boys 3200 meters with a time of 10:50.10.
The boys 4x800 relay also scored with a fourth-place finish in 8:53.33.
On the girls side, Brandy Mejia finished fifth in the 1600 meters and seventh in the 3200 meters, while Jessica Escalante Cabrera added points in the 1600. The girls 4x800 relay also contributed with a sixth-place finish.
Aiden Javier added points in the boys 400 meters with a seventh-place finish in 53.05.
