NNS Fall Sports Roundup: August 17-23, 2026

Area schools participated in 49 confirmed varsity events during the week of Aug. 17-23. The results include five football games, 20 girls volleyball matches, 19 boys soccer matches and five girls tennis matches.

The South Central at Kinston, South Lenoir at Jones Senoir and Bear Grass at Wayne Christian all got moved to Monday night.

Football

Aug. 20: C.B. Aycock 20, Rosewood 0

C.B. Aycock opened its season with a road shutout. The Golden Falcons improved to 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play, while Rosewood fell to 0-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play.

C.B. Aycock generated 203 yards of offense, including 120 rushing and 83 passing. Christian Atkinson rushed for 84 yards on 15 carries. Malachi Moore completed both of his passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, while Devin Lewis caught a 23-yard touchdown pass.

Rennie Streett led the Golden Falcons with eight tackles. Leonel Alanis recorded a sack, Ja’Keis Saunders and Devin Lewis made interceptions, and Gavin Sauls recovered a fumble. Rosewood statistics were unavailable.

Aug. 20: Greene Central 49, North Lenoir 20

Greene Central scored 21 points in the first quarter and won at North Lenoir. The Rams improved to 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play, while North Lenoir fell to 0-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play.

Donovan Ingram rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Joshua Cetnar completed 7 of 12 passes for 76 yards and three touchdowns while adding 29 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Trey Bynum caught four passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns.

Mathew “JoJo” Sanders scored on a 15-yard reception and a rushing attempt while totaling 148 return yards. Zaveyon Artis recorded nine tackles, Ben Ramsey added eight and Treylan Eatmon returned an interception 80 yards.

Jaylen Wooten led North Lenoir with 274 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

Aug. 20: Eastern Wayne 77, Goldsboro 0

Eastern Wayne opened its season with a road victory over Goldsboro. The Warriors improved to 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play. Goldsboro fell to 0-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play. Team and individual statistics were unavailable.

Aug. 20: James Kenan 49, Southern Wayne 6

Southern Wayne fell on the road after James Kenan built a 35-0 halftime lead. The Saints moved to 0-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play, while James Kenan improved to 1-0. James Kenan rushed for 262 yards. Southern Wayne’s team and individual statistics were unavailable.

Aug. 21: Triangle Math & Science Academy 2, Wayne Preparatory Academy 0

Wayne Preparatory Academy’s road game was recorded as a forfeit victory for Triangle Math & Science Academy. Wayne Prep fell to 0-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play, while TMSA improved to 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play. No statistics were available.
