GCMS Boys Clinch Third Straight Regular Season Title
The Greene County Middle School boys basketball team closed the regular season in championship fashion, picking up two conference wins last week to secure the 2025–26 Division 2 regular season championship for the third straight year.
GCMS finished the regular season 13–1 overall and 12–0 in conference play, entering next week’s postseason tournament with momentum and an opportunity to defend its tournament title.
GCMS 53, Ayden 39 (Jan. 26)
GCMS took control early on the road at Ayden, building a 27–9 halftime lead and never allowing the outcome to come into question.
Ayden, needing a win to secure third place in the conference standings, kept its starters on the floor for most of the game. GCMS countered with strong depth after halftime, as the bench maintained the lead and kept the pressure on throughout the second half.

The win moved GCMS to 11–0 in conference play and locked Ayden into the No. 4 seed, setting up a first-round playoff matchup between the two teams at GCMS. The game is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, though weather could impact the final date.
GCMS 50, Grifton 29 (Jan. 29)
In the regular season finale at Grifton, GCMS pulled away in the second half to complete an unbeaten conference run.
Grifton kept things close early, trailing 24–16 at halftime, but GCMS turned the game in the third quarter with a decisive run and never looked back.
