The GCMS boys basketball team continued its dominant run through conference play on Monday night, rolling past Chicod School 52–25 to secure a major milestone in the season.
With the win, GCMS improves to 9–0 in conference play, officially clinching first place and home-court advantage for the Division 2 playoffs. The victory underscored what has been a consistent and disciplined season for the program on both ends of the floor.
GCMS set the tone early and never looked back, building separation with strong defensive pressure and balanced scoring. The Warriors held Chicod to 25 points on the night, turning defense into transition opportunities throughout the game.
Leading scorers for GCMS:
Josiah Joyner – 16 points
Kyler Davis – 9 points
Kam Jones – 8 points
After the game, head coach Steven Criste pointed to the team’s commitment and focus throughout the season.
“This group has earned everything that’s come their way,” Criste said. “They’ve bought in from day one, they defend, they play for each other, and they’ve handled their business every night. Going 9–0 in conference and locking up first place is something these kids should be proud of.”
GCMS will return to action on January 22, 2026, hosting Grifton Middle School in a key home matchup. The game will also serve as 8th grade recognition night, honoring the players who have helped lay the foundation for this championship season.
“We’re hoping for a big crowd,” Criste added. “It’s a chance for our community to come out, support our boys and girls teams, and recognize our eighth graders. They deserve that moment.”
With first place secured and postseason positioning locked in, GCMS now turns its attention to closing out the regular season strong as the Division 2 playoffs approach.
