Greene Central alum Abby Vendemia returns home to host volleyball camps

Greene Central High School alum Abby Vendemia is coming back to where it all began.

Vendemia, a member of the Rams’ Class of 2021, will host a series of volleyball camps at Greene Central High School this May, giving young athletes in Greene County a chance to learn directly from one of the program’s own success stories.

A former standout at Greene Central, Vendemia continued her playing career at Cape Fear Community College, where she helped lead the Sea Devils to back-to-back National Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. Following her playing career, she transitioned into coaching and spent three seasons (2023–2025) as an assistant coach at CFCC. In January 2026, she was promoted to Associate Head Volleyball Coach.

During her three-year tenure on the coaching staff, Cape Fear compiled a 54–14 record and produced more than 15 All-Region selections. Vendemia also serves on the coaching staff at East Coast Volleyball Academy in Wilmington, where she is entering her third year as a head coach.

Now, Vendemia is bringing her experience back home with a mission that goes beyond wins and losses.

“I wanted to come back and pour into the program that helped me become the coach and person I am today,” Vendemia said. “My goal is to inspire these girls to dream big, work hard, and become even better than I was.”

Three camps, three opportunities

The camp lineup is designed to meet athletes at different stages of their volleyball journey, from beginners to those with college aspirations.

Beginner Camp
May 16 | 9 a.m.–12 p.m. | Ages 10 & under
This camp is geared toward young athletes new to the sport, focusing on basic fundamentals such as serving, passing, and teamwork through fun, age-appropriate drills.

Intermediate Camp
May 16 | 12:30–3:30 p.m. | Ages 11–15
Designed for players with prior experience, this session will emphasize skill development, consistency, and a deeper understanding of the game.

College-Bound Camp
May 17 | 2–6 p.m. | Grades 9–12
Tailored for varsity and club-level athletes, this camp will feature advanced training, competitive play, and insight into the college recruiting process, particularly for rising juniors and seniors.

All camps will be held at Greene Central High School.

Vendemia hopes the camps will not only improve skills on the court, but also build confidence and a lasting love for the game among local athletes—just as Greene Central once did for her.
