Greene Central goes 2-0 in conference tri-meet
Greene Central High School picked up two conference victories Wednesday night, defeating Tarboro 60-17 and edging Ayden-Grifton 48-35 in a tri-meet held at Greene Central.
Against Tarboro, the Rams dominated early and often, scoring bonus points throughout the lineup. Greene Central recorded six pins and benefitted from several forfeits to build separation quickly.
Wyat Jenkins (113), Jacob Edmonds (150), Skilan Rodgers (215) and Curan Whitley (285) each earned wins by fall, while Landyn Latiolais (138), Grayson Wicker (165), Preston Hunt (175) and Steve Marquez (190) collected victories via forfeit. Saul Gonzalez (120) and Tyler Suggs (126) also added points with forfeits as Greene Central cruised to the win.
Tarboro’s points came from pins by Stephen Ribustello at 144 and technical fall victories by Landon Browning at 157, along with a win by Landon Batten at 106.
In the nightcap against Ayden-Grifton, Greene Central held off a late surge to secure a 48-35 conference win.
Edmonds (150), Giancarlo Diaz (157), Wicker (165), Hunt (175) and Marquez (190) all delivered wins by fall for the Rams, while Alexander Martinez (144) added another pin. Jenkins (113) and Brenden Scott (106) contributed points with forfeits.
Ayden-Grifton countered with pins from Macon Daughetry (126), Aron Ascencio (138), Dashawn Folks (215) and Jorge Medina (285), along with a technical fall from Keller Guthrie at 120, but Greene Central’s depth across the middle and upper weights proved decisive.
Greene Central improved its conference standing with the pair of victories, while Tarboro and Ayden-Grifton split their night in Farmville.
