Greene Central JV Football Demolishes West Craven, Extends Winning Streak

The Greene Central Junior Varsity football team continued their undefeated streak, moving to an 8-0 record for the season and 4-0 in the conference following a stunning 56-0 victory against West Craven at home.

This win held a special significance for the Rams as West Craven had previously ended their undefeated streak and thwarted their conference championship aspirations last season. Moreover, this marked their first victory against West Craven JV since October 24, 2019.

The Rams have exhibited exceptional performance in their recent outings. In the last three games, all played on the road, they have outscored their opponents 131-0. Including the latest triumph, the cumulative score over the last four games stands at an astounding 187-0.

Sophomore running back Dejuan Cobb had a stellar game, accounting for three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving). Freshman quarterback Trey Bynum contributed four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing), while Kam Vandiford added three more to the tally (two receiving, one punt return). The defense also had its share of the limelight with Rams defensive back Devaun Brewington returning an interception 37 yards for a touchdown.

Reflecting on the victory, the sentiment was profound. "It means a tremendous amount to me because, at the end of the day, the kids found a way to take that loss [from last year] and compartmentalize it, coming back 365 days later to ensure they were competitive at a high level to get the job done," remarked an individual from the team.

The offensive execution was attributed to "reps, repetitions, belief, and trusting the system." Despite players operating in different positions, their belief in the system and the coaching provided propelled them to perform at a high level.

On the defensive prowess, the accolades went to "the defensive mastermind, Colin Lee," whose contributions were deemed indispensable to the program's success at the JV, varsity, and overall program levels.

Looking ahead, the Rams are set to face Farmville Central, a formidable opponent with a 5-1 season record and 3-1 in conference play. The focus remains on taking "one game at a time," as they continue their pursuit of excellence on the field.
