Greene Central opens conference play with statement win over Tarboro

After being tested by some of the top competition in the area, Greene Central responded in a big way Tuesday night.

The Rams opened conference play with a dominant 12-2 win over Tarboro, bouncing back with one of their most complete performances of the season.

Tarboro struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of a fielder’s choice to grab an early 1-0 lead. Greene Central wasted little time answering.

In the bottom of the first, Will Radford delivered a sacrifice fly and Logan Burress worked a walk that led to another run, giving the Rams a 2-1 advantage.

Greene Central broke the game open in the second inning, plating five runs on four hits. Sie Harris delivered a two-run single, Burress followed with a two-run knock of his own, and an error added another run as the Rams built a 7-1 lead.

The Rams continued to apply pressure in the fourth, again scoring five runs—this time on six hits. Noah Roberson highlighted the inning with a two-run single, Sutton Harris added an RBI hit, Treylan Eatmon drove in a run with a triple, and Mason Dillon capped the frame with an RBI single.

On the mound, Riley Radford turned in a strong performance to earn the win. The right-hander allowed just one hit and two runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking three while keeping Tarboro off balance throughout the night.

Offensively, Greene Central finished with 11 hits and showed patience at the plate with six walks. Dillon, Radford, and Eatmon each recorded two hits, while Burress, Roberson, and Harris each drove in two runs.

The Rams were also aggressive on the basepaths, swiping five stolen bases, with Dillon and Harris each recording multiple steals.

After a stretch against tough non-conference opponents, Greene Central opened league play with a clear statement, combining timely hitting, disciplined at-bats, and strong pitching.

Greene Central will look to carry that momentum forward as it continues conference play.
