Hawks Sweep Devils in Electric Rivalry Night

DEEP RUN, N.C. – If you weren’t in the gym Friday night, you missed one of the loudest, rowdiest nights in Eastern North Carolina hoops. The student sections from North Lenoir and South Lenoir turned South Lenoir High School into a cauldron, trading chants, signs, and sheer chaos from tip to final buzzer. When the dust settled, the Hawks left with two wins and bragging rights for another year.

Girls: North Lenoir 55, South Lenoir 33

The Lady Hawks ruined South Lenoir’s senior night vibes early and often.

North Lenoir (2-0) buried the Lady Devils 18-5 in the first quarter and stretched it to 24-11 by halftime, rolling to a 55-33 victory that never felt in doubt. Ta’Sheena Lynch dropped 18 points, including 8 in the opening blitz, while Cassidee Fraizer added 12. Mackenzie Herring’s 10 points led South Lenoir (0-2), but the Devils never found an answer for the Hawks’ pressure.

The win is North Lenoir’s fourth straight over their rivals and pushes their edge since 2004 to 21-16.

Boys: North Lenoir 81, South Lenoir 75

This one? Absolute war.

South Lenoir’s student section helped the Devils (0-1) jump out 21-16 after one. North Lenoir’s “Hawk Krazees” traveled loud and proud, answering every run and turning the gym into a split-level thunder dome.

The Hawks (1-0) erased the deficit by halftime (36-35) and then lit the third quarter on fire, dropping 28 points to South Lenoir’s 20 to seize control. A 15-9 fourth-quarter edge sealed the 81-75 win and sent the North Lenoir faithful into pandemonium.

Chris Veal torched the nets for 21 points, little brother Julian Veal added 17, and AJ Black chipped in 16. Gavin Brock led South Lenoir with an impressive 19, Amari Edwards had 15, and Christian Wooten finished with 14, but the Devils couldn’t cool off the red-hot Hawks.

The victory extends North Lenoir’s win streak over South Lenoir to 12 straight (including last year’s forfeit when the Devils won on the court). Since 2004, no school has beaten South Lenoir more than the Hawks—now a staggering 28-12.

Up Next Both teams return Tuesday, November 25: North Lenoir travels to Greene Central, while South Lenoir hosts Dixon looking to quiet the doubters.
