Kinston Extends Win Streak to Nine Games

In a commanding performance, the Kinston High School boys' basketball team cruised to a 73-31 victory over South Lenoir, marking their ninth consecutive win and setting the stage for a high-profile matchup against Goldsboro in the upcoming Brandon Ingram MLK Showcase. This triumph brings Kinston's impressive season record to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while South Lenoir now stands at 3-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

The Vikings' success is often credited to the dynamic underclassmen on the team, but the senior twins Khalid and Kahlil Sanders have been consistent yet underrated contributors. Khalid Sanders led all scorers in this game with 18 points, including a remarkable 15 points in the first half alone.

Freshman Keyshawn Herring also put on a spectacular show, finishing with 14 points marked by multiple dunks. Khalil Sanders added 7 points to the tally, demonstrating the depth of talent on the Kinston squad. Overall, the Vikings showed their team strength with 10 out of 12 players scoring during the game.

South lenoir was led by Shamarr Rhodes with 9 points.

Coach Tyndall reflected on the team's performance and the challenge of maintaining energy in back-to-back games. "Back-to-back nights are always tough, coming back and bringing the same energy every night," he said. "I thought the guys responded well, and it's always good to get a conference win. I'm proud of my guys tonight."

Tyndall also praised the Sanders twins for their impact since transferring to Kinston last year as juniors. "When they came here, they set the tone. Defensively, they are going to bring it, and they brought that out in everybody else on the team," Tyndall noted. He highlighted the integral role the twins play, saying, "They make us go. They get us going. A lot of people get talked about a lot, but these guys are what get us started."

Khalid Sanders spoke about his evolution into a leadership role. "Last year, we had a lot of seniors, and they were already the leaders," he said. "They knew what was going on in the system, and now this year, I'm just locking in, playing my role, and being a leader."

Kahlil Sanders shared his approach to supporting the younger players. "Just by talking to them, keeping a voice with them at all times, speaking up at all times, and just stepping up," he explained.

The game against South Lenoir not only solidified Kinston's standing in the conference but also showcased the blend of experienced leadership and youthful energy that makes the Vikings a formidable team. As they head into the Brandon Ingram MLK Showcase and the heart of their season, Kinston High School's boys' basketball team looks to continue their impressive run, buoyed by the contributions of players like the Sanders twins and the rising stars among their ranks.
