Lady Blue Devils Secure Coach Pierce's First Win

DEEP RUN, NC - The South Lenoir Blue Devils carved their path to victory in their first home game of the season, overcoming the Croatan Cougars in a tightly contested match that ended 40-35. This game marked Coach Zach Pierce’s first win at South Lenoir, a significant achievement for the team’s evolving dynamics.

The Blue Devils' performance was characterized by a close battle throughout, with the lead oscillating minimally until the final quarter. It was then that South Lenoir established a 10-point lead, a cushion that proved vital as Croatan fiercely narrowed the gap to just two points in the closing stages. However, South Lenoir’s composure in executing free throws and key shots ensured their lead remained intact until the final whistle.

Ty Midgett was a standout performer for South Lenoir, contributing a team-high 16 points along with 5 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 rebounds. Her effort was complemented by Kat Thompson, who tallied 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Alexus Haddock and Makenzie Herring also made notable contributions, with 8 points and 3 points respectively, adding depth to the team’s offensive and defensive efforts.

Coach Pierce, reflecting on the victory, emphasized the broader contributions of the team. “My captains led the way tonight. They not only contributed significantly in scoring 29 of our 40 points but also demonstrated remarkable leadership,” he said. He highlighted their defensive mindset and vocal presence on the court as pivotal in setting the tone for the team.

A key aspect of the Blue Devils' strategy was the implementation of a defensive plan, suggested by the team captains, aimed at curtailing Croatan’s leading scorers. This plan played a crucial role in South Lenoir's success, showcasing the team's tactical awareness and adaptability.
