NNS Midseason Update: Greene Central Volleyball

Greene Central Volleyball Finding Early Momentum in New Conference

Greene Central volleyball has positioned itself well through the first half of the season, entering mid-September with an 8-5 record and a 2-0 start in conference play. The Rams have shown balance, holding a 5-1 mark at home and battling to a 3-4 record on the road, while riding the confidence of a three-match winning streak.

It’s already clear this season carries a different tone compared to last year’s 12-13 campaign. Greene Central sits at No. 29 in the statewide RPI rankings with a .502 rating, which also places the Rams 13th in the East Region. Their numbers reflect not only improvement but also consistency against both familiar rivals and new competition in their conference alignment.

The road ahead, however, brings no shortage of challenges. Ayden-Grifton — considered one of the top teams in the state and ranked No. 7 in the RPI — looms as a key measuring stick. Greene Central will see the Chargers twice in a span of less than three weeks, beginning with a home matchup on Sept. 16. Regardless of the outcome, playing a team of Ayden-Grifton’s caliber will boost the Rams’ RPI and test how far the group has come.

Wins over Tarboro, Rocky Mount, and Kinston have built momentum, while competitive matches against Washington and SouthWest Edgecombe highlighted the Rams’ ability to stay in the fight. Greene Central’s new conference features heavy hitters, but their fast start suggests they’re ready to compete for a higher seeding in the postseason picture.

If the Rams continue their growth, they’ll be in position not just to better last year’s win total, but also to enter the playoff conversation as one of the more dangerous middle-tier teams in the East.
