Parrott overwhelms Jones Senior in 11-man matchup

After a pair of impressive 8-man wins over out-of-state powerhouses from Alabama and Maryland, Parrott Academy ventured into the 11-man game against Jones Senior and didn’t miss a beat.
The Patriots (3-0) dominated from the opening kick, scoring touchdowns on all six first-half possessions and forcing a running clock late in the second quarter of a 60-6 rout of the Trojans on Thursday at Hodges Field.
“We came out and executed and played really well,” Parrott coach Matt Beaman said. “We wanted to jump on them and put the game away early. I thought we did that.”
First Quarter Domination
It took APA just two plays to get on the scoreboard. After taking over at their own 31, Parrott quarterback Christopher Stimson hit Ben Barrett for 32 yards and followed that up with a 37-yard scoring strike to his brother, William.
After Sylas Rouse scored from a yard out on Parrott’s second possession, Stimson closed the first quarter with two more touchdown passes — 33 yards to Braxton Loftin-Myers and 49 yards to Barrett.
Second Quarter Scare
Loftin-Myers scored again early in the second quarter, this time on an electrifying 44-yard run around the right end.
A hush came over the field on APA’s next possession when Stimson was drilled late after completing what appeared to be an 89-yard touchdown pass to Barrett. A Patriot player retaliated for the late hit, and offsetting live-ball penalties were called on both teams, nullifying the score.
Stimson left the game clutching his shoulder and didn’t return, although he could have, according to Beaman.
“Chris is good,” Beaman said. “His shoulder is a little sore, but he could have played in the second half if we had needed him.”
No Second-Half Letdown
APA scored three times in the second half even without running a single offensive play in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Henry Sutton, who ended the first half with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Barrett, led a pair of scoring drives with a running clock. William Stimson also found the end zone again on a 51-yard interception return.
Loftin-Myers tallied his third touchdown of the game in the third quarter with a 70-yard run. Cole Watson added a 25-yard scoring run for the Patriots.
“People say we don’t play real football, so we always try to play a couple of 11-man games each season,” Beaman said. “We want people to know we’re a good football team no matter how many players are on the field.”
Trojans Don’t Quit
Despite the lopsided final score, the Trojans fought to the end, scoring their lone touchdown on the game’s final play. With the clock winding down, Jones quarterback Gage Mustachia connected with Brady Woolard on a 6-yard pass.
“We’re still playing a numbers game,” Jones coach Stephen Perry said. “We only dressed 20 kids, but I’m proud of the way we kept fighting. I thought we showed a lot of heart there at the end. We just need to do a better job of putting everything together and getting off to a better start.”
