Rams Rally to Defeat Pam Pack, 30-20

SNOW HILL, N.C. — Two years ago, Washington Pam Pack came into Snow Hill and scored 57 points against the Rams. This time, Greene Central had other plans, defeating Washington 30-20 in a thrilling conference matchup. "There's a lot of respect between Washington and GC, but I keep receipts. I always remember when times were lean over here; I respect them, but I never forget," said Coach Wilson, reflecting on Washington's previous 57-point game in Snow Hill.

First-Half Drama

The game started with a bang as Washington blocked a Greene Central punt in the first quarter, setting up their initial scoring drive. The Rams answered back with a four-yard touchdown by James Ballard, who finished with 18 rushes for 129 yards and one rushing touchdown. Washington then took a 13-7 lead with a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, with just 58 seconds left in the first half.

However, the Rams responded. Sophomore quarterback Will Radford, who went 7-14 for 64 yards, suffered an injury. Backup Jordan Scott stepped in and led the Rams downfield, where kicker Derek Carillo capped off the half with a 17-yard field goal, narrowing the score to 13-10.

"Those six points make a difference in the ball game and influence how we coach and call plays," said Coach Wilson, commenting on Carillo's contributions.

Second-Half Surge

Opening the second half, James Ballard intercepted a Washington pass and returned it for a 14-yard pick-six, giving the Rams a 17-13 lead.

"I was just doing my part, man; that's all I've got to say," said Ballard.

On the next Rams possession, Montrell Moore broke free for a 56-yard run, setting up a one-yard touchdown by Scott. Later in the fourth quarter, Scott connected with Jaylen Wynn for a 38-yard touchdown pass, sealing the victory and improving the Rams' season record to 4-4 and 3-1 in conference play.

"I do whatever it takes for the team," said Scott, who stepped in for the injured Radford. "We talked to Jordan about carrying the torch at halftime, and I told him it's your torch now; lead us," added Wilson.

Defensive Dominance

The Greene Central defense was once again phenomenal, forcing four turnovers and scoring for the second consecutive week. Micheal Suggs added to his interception tally, grabbing his fourth of the year. Defensive ends Mez Coppedge and Tyler Williams wreaked havoc, stuffing run plays and forcing Washington's QB into erratic throws.

Up Next

Greene Central faces off against West Craven next week, a team that is undefeated in conference play and coming off a 20-7 win over Farmville Central.
