The Blue Devils Take Down The Hawks In The Swamp

In a highly anticipated makeup game following a rainout, the South Lenoir Varsity Devils emerged victorious over their rivals, North Lenoir, with a stunning 22-3 win on Thursday. The game was evenly matched at 2-2 until the top of the fourth when Kiley Smith doubled on a 1-1 count, sending one run home and tipping the scales in South Lenoir's favor.

Makenzie Herring provided a significant boost for the South Lenoir Varsity Devils, going 4-for-5 at the plate. Herring's impressive performance included a double in the first, singles in the fourth and two singles in the fifth inning.

North Lenoir opened up scoring in the first inning, with Haley Hemby drawing a walk and scoring one run. However, South Lenoir Varsity Devils turned the tide in the top of the third, with Mary Grace Beyer driving in two runs with a single, tying the game at two.

“MG came through with the clutch hit to tie us, and the girls just rolled with it,” South Lenoir coach Madison Harvey said.

The South Lenoir Varsity Devils showcased their offensive fireworks in the fifth inning, racking up 17 runs. Payton Bryan, Jordan Sasnett, Makayla Sasnett, Herring, Beyer, and Carley Boone all contributed RBIs during the inning.

“They played great,” Harvey said. “We hit before the game at South Lenoir and we had a conversation. I told the girls, ‘we are on a losing streak but it ends it now’.”

Callie Tyndall was the starting pitcher for South Lenoir Varsity Devils, surrendering two runs on zero hits over one inning.

South Lenoir Varsity Devils' offense was on fire, accumulating 14 hits during the game. Herring, Smith, Beyer, and Boone all collected multiple hits, with Herring leading the charge by going 4-for-5 at the plate.

“We got to do a little soul searching. What was needed from the girls tonight can't be found by practicing,” North Lenoir head coach Bobby Hatcher.

Despite their best efforts, North Lenoir couldn't overcome the fierce rivalry and high stakes of the rain-delayed makeup game, ultimately succumbing to the South Lenoir Varsity Devils' commanding performance.
