LCC Volleyball Report: LCC Stays Over .500 With Postseason Hopes Alive
Through 18 matches, Lenoir Community College volleyball sits at 11-9 overall and 1-2 in Region 10 conference play. The Lancers have shown flashes of dominance, especially at home, but their inconsistency away from Kinston has kept them hovering at .500.
Statistical Breakdown
Offense: LCC averages 6.38 kills per set on a .149 hitting percentage. Both figures place them in the middle tier of the NJCAA rankings. The attack runs through freshman Alivia Whitley, who leads the team with 118 kills (4.07 per set) despite a heavy workload of 371 attempts. Sophomore middle Peyton Kimber has been the most efficient hitter, swinging .276 with 2.38 kills per set. In victories, the offense jumps to 9.74 kills per set on .194 hitting—showing the clear difference between winning and losing performances.
Defense: The Lancers are averaging 9.43 digs per set, led by Mary Grace Miles (151 digs, 4.87 per set). The block hasn’t been a major weapon, with just 0.63 per set, but Jayla Lee (16 total) and Whitley (12) provide some presence at the net. Defensively, they’re sharp in wins (12.7 digs/set) but collapse in losses (6.4).
Serving: LCC’s serve has been a weapon at home (2.33 aces/set) and in wins (2.74 aces/set), but it drops dramatically in road matches (0.48 aces/set). Brooklyn Payne (20 aces) and Whitley (18) headline the service line, though reception errors (60 total) have swung a few sets against them.
Splits Tell the Story
Home: 7-3 record, hitting .178 with 8.5 kills/set.
Away: 3-5 record, hitting just .072 with 4.0 kills/set.
Month to Month: In August, LCC hit .156 and averaged 12.6 kills/set. In September, that dipped to .135 and 3.1 kills/set as the competition ramped up.
Key Players
Whitley (Fr., OH/MH): 118 kills, 4.07 per set, team-high 144 points.
Kimber (So., MH): 76 kills on .276 hitting, reliable in the middle.
Miles (So., DS/L): 151 digs, 4.87 per set, defensive anchor.
Payne (Fr., S/RS): 127 assists, 20 aces, versatile contributor.
Looking Ahead
The second half of the schedule includes Wake Tech, Pitt, Fayetteville Tech, Richard Bland, Cape Fear, and a rematch with Louisburg. That’s a tough stretch—Wake Tech and Cape Fear are perennial Region 10 contenders.
Playoff Outlook
At 11-9 overall, the Lancers are in the conversation for postseason play but need to climb in conference standings. Region 10 usually rewards teams around .500 in league play if the résumé is strong. With a 1-2 start, they’ll need to pick up at least 3–4 more conference wins down the stretch.
If they can protect home court against Pitt, Fayetteville Tech, and Cape Fear—and steal a road result at Richard Bland or Louisburg—the Lancers will be positioned to qualify for the Region 10 Tournament.
Right now, their playoff chances look like a coin flip, hinging on whether the September slump was a blip or a trend.
