KINSTON, N.C. — After a brief hiatus to allow Western North Carolina teams to catch up on games impacted by recent hurricane devastation, the NCHSAA has released its football playoff brackets. Round one begins this Friday, Nov. 15, with three Neuse News Sports teams earning spots in the postseason: No. 17 Greene Central, No. 19 Kinston, and No. 27 North Lenoir.
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Cheer squads will take center stage on Saturday, Nov. 16, as Southwest Onslow High School hosts the 2A East Central Conference Cheer Championship. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., with the competition beginning at 11 a.m. and winners announced at 12:45 p.m.
SPIVEY’S CORNER, N.C. — North Lenoir delivered a thrilling comeback performance in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A soccer playoffs, defeating No. 10 seed (15-6-1) Midway 4-3 in double overtime. The Hawks, seeded No. 23, overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit on the road, with Maddox Smith’s hat trick leading the charge. Sophomore Yahir Hernandez added a crucial goal, and goalkeeper Evan Smith’s eight saves kept the Hawks in the fight.
Lenoir Community College’s volleyball team advanced in the NJCAA DII Region 10 Tournament, rallying for a 3-1 win over Bryant & Stratton on their home court. For sophomores Mikalah Dale and Hayli Verme, this last home game was especially meaningful. Dale noted the team’s unity, while Verme praised their focus, adding, “Going out with a win is everything.” The Lancers now face top-seeded Richard Bland College on Friday.

The North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) released its 2024-25 football state championship brackets this past weekend, with top teams primed to begin competition on Friday. Among them, Arendell Parrott Academy leads as the number one seed, boasting a 9-1 record and a nine-game win streak.

The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots took to the road on Friday evening for a matchup against the Wayne Christian Eagles. The Patriots scored early and often en route to a 60-20 victory. With the win, the Patriots clinched the NCISAA 8-man Conference Championship and the #1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.
La Grange –The North Lenoir Hawks (4-5) delivered a commanding performance in the annual Bragging Bowl, overpowering the South Lenoir Blue Devils (0-9) with a 47-6 victory at the Swamp. With a relentless ground game and a defense that held the Blue Devils to under 100 total yards, the Hawks controlled the game from start to finish, seizing local bragging rights and setting the stage for a critical game against Kinston next week, with the #2 spot in the conference on the line.
SNOW HILL — The rivalry between Greene Central and Farmville Central isn’t just fierce—it’s personal. And on Senior Night, the Rams made sure their bitter rival knew exactly what they were up against, forcing a staggering seven turnovers and delivering a defensive clinic that left Farmville Central reeling in a 25-22 defeat. Greene Central's defense was relentless, using every opportunity to strip away Farmville’s momentum and pride. GC has won 8 of the last 10 games against the Jaguars.
North Lenoir's postseason journey continued in thrilling fashion as the No. 14-seeded Hawks swept No. 19 Heidi Trask 3-0 on Thursday afternoon, advancing to the second round of the NCHSAA 2A Volleyball Playoffs. With this win, North Lenoir (16-3) sets up a highly anticipated rematch against No. 3 seed Manteo, who ended the Hawks' playoff run last year on North Lenoir's home court.

Greene Central’s tennis program is no stranger to success, and this past weekend, they solidified their legendary status at the 2A East Regional Tournament under the guidance of Coach Tim Medlin. Known for producing champions year after year, the Rams once again made major moves, earning top finishes in both singles and doubles play.
SNOW HILL — On a brisk Homecoming night at Greene Central, the Rams made history, defeating West Craven for the first time ever in their eight-game series with a hard-fought 19-12 victory. With temperatures dipping into the low 50s, the packed stands were buzzing, and the Rams gave the community plenty to cheer about.
