Deitrich “DJ” Williams Claims National Title in High Jump at Adidas Outdoor Nationals

RALEIGH, N.C. — With focus, elevation, and zero scratches, Deitrich “DJ” Williams rose above the field—and the expectations—at the 2025 Adidas Outdoor Nationals, winning gold in the Boys National Elite High Jump with a clearance of 6'6.74".

A member of Revelation Peak Performance Track Club, Inc.—an elite youth track organization based out of Winterville, N.C.—Williams trained under Reese Owens, a decorated coach with 9 national champions and 25 All-Americans over 16 years. And his latest champion never flinched under pressure.

“DJ is already a talented athlete,” said Owens. “But leading up to Adidas Nationals, he trained smarter. We focused on strength, speed, and power. He never scratched a jump. That told me he was in his zone—poised and very comfortable.”

When the meet officials gave Williams the option to attempt a meet record of 6'9", he didn’t hesitate. “He already knew the plan,” Owens added. “He went for it.”

While the record narrowly evaded him, Williams left with gold—and a target on his back heading into the USATF Region 3 Junior Olympic Championships, set for June 27–29. A top-eight finish would punch his ticket to the 2025 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships, held July 21–27 at Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia.

Off the track, Williams is just as dynamic. A Greene Central High School basketball standout, he earned MVP honorsin the high jump, long jump, and triple jump during the high school season. His versatility and raw athleticism continue to set him apart on both hardwood and runway.

“As an overall great athlete, this gold medal is a reflection of not just DJ’s natural talent, but also his discipline, dedication, and adaptability—on and off the track,” said Owens.

With a gold medal around his neck and the Junior Olympics on deck, Deitrich “DJ” Williams is a name AEO—and the national track scene—needs to remember.
