Malcom Dawson Named Greene County Parks and Recreation Director

SNOW HILL, N.C. — Greene County Government proudly announces Malcolm Dawson as the new Director of Parks and Recreation, continuing its commitment to local leadership and community development.

Dawson, a 2011 graduate of Greene Central High School, earned his Sports Management degree from UNC Pembroke in 2015. He has worked with Greene County Parks and Recreation since November 2015, developing programs, building community relationships, and helping expand youth, adult, and senior services across the county.

“This is a dream job — something I’ve wanted since I graduated college,” Dawson said. “I didn’t think it would happen this fast.”

He was chosen through a competitive hiring process that included community stakeholders, Greene County Schools staff, and parks and recreation professionals from outside the region.

A Greene County native, Dawson brings both experience and heart to the role.

“It means everything going back to Greene County. It's where I started. It’s where I wanna finish,” he said. “It’s the place that molded me. I care about the senior citizens, the seniors in high school, the kids — down to the toddlers. It’s a special place to me.”

Dawson will officially step into the director’s role ahead of his 10-year anniversary with the department this November.

“I remember when them seniors now were playing recreation, when I started here nine years ago,” Dawson said. “I have loved seeing everything develop and grow.”

Greene County Government is confident in Dawson’s leadership and vision for the future of parks, athletics, and recreational programming.
