East of I-95 Summer Series: Top 10 Quarterbacks in the East
The inaugural edition of the East of I-95 Summer Series on The Trey Scott Sports Show kicked off with a look at some of the top quarterbacks in Eastern North Carolina heading into the 2026 football season.
The rankings were based primarily on production, efficiency, touchdown responsibility, and overall impact during the 2025 season. Several quarterbacks put together outstanding statistical campaigns, making this one of the deepest position groups in the region.
1. Matthew Boring, Hoggard
Boring earns the top spot after accounting for 34 total touchdowns last season. The 6-foot-3 quarterback completed 206 of 296 passes for 2,448 yards and 19 touchdowns while adding 284 rushing yards and 15 rushing scores. His ability to impact the game through the air and on the ground helped separate him from the rest of the field.
2. Zak Ishman, Northeastern
Few quarterbacks in the East matched Ishman's production. He completed 203 of 305 passes for 3,233 yards and 36 touchdowns while throwing just eight interceptions. He also added 278 rushing yards and six touchdowns, finishing with 42 total touchdowns.
3. Sam Finch, Fike
Finch posted one of the most efficient seasons in the region, completing 187 of 209 passes for 2,434 yards and 30 touchdowns. The 6-foot-2 signal caller also rushed for 342 yards and nine touchdowns, finishing with 39 total scores.
4. Kannon McBride, Croatan
McBride was one of the most efficient passers on the list, completing 152 of 208 attempts for 2,072 yards and 30 touchdowns while throwing only six interceptions. His touchdown-to-interception ratio was among the best in Eastern North Carolina.
5. Chase Davis, J.H. Rose
At 6-foot-4, Davis possesses one of the most intriguing frames among quarterbacks in the region. He completed 102 of 172 passes for 1,804 yards and 15 touchdowns while leading one of Eastern North Carolina's premier programs. Picking up some more weapons and returning his old weapons is a recipe for a great season for Davis.
6. Miles McCallop, Clinton
McCallop put together a productive season, throwing for 1,971 yards and 22 touchdowns while tossing just five interceptions. He also added 283 rushing yards and four touchdowns, accounting for 26 total scores.
7. Josh Cetnar, Greene Central
Three-year starter. Cetnar's touchdown production stood out. The 6-foot-2 quarterback threw for 1,424 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 358 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. He finished with 27 total touchdowns.
8. Tanner Williams, Midway
Williams was one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the East. He threw for 1,949 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 568 yards and 10 touchdowns. He accounted for 29 total touchdowns during the season.
9. Tahahri Johnson, New Hanover
Johnson contributed both through the air and on the ground, passing for 1,449 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 359 yards and seven additional scores. His versatility helped New Hanover's offense in multiple ways.
10. Devon Mayo, Southwest Edgecombe
The lone junior in the rankings, Mayo threw for 1,538 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding 333 rushing yards. His production and upside place him among the top returning quarterbacks in Eastern North Carolina. Getting a new coach and new system he might move up more!
The quarterback rankings serve as the first installment of the East of I-95 Summer Series. The countdown continues next week with a look at the Top 10 Running Backs in the East as preparations for the 2026 high school football season continue across Eastern North Carolina.
