Frink Cavaliers knock off Woodington Raiders, 4-1, for first win in series in six years

For the first time in six years, the Frink Cavaliers got the better of the Woodington Raiders.

Frink used timely hitting and a complete-game effort on the mound to secure a 4-1 win on Wednesday, snapping a long drought in the matchup between the two programs.

The Cavaliers broke through first in the bottom of the second inning when Johnson grounded out to bring home a run. They extended the lead in the third, capitalizing on two key plays — a Cooper Parks single down the left field line and a bases-loaded walk by Williams — to push the advantage to 3-0.

From there, Connor Sutton took control.

Sutton went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits and one run — none earned — over seven innings while striking out three and issuing no walks. He consistently worked ahead in counts and limited Woodington’s opportunities to generate momentum.

Woodington’s best chance came behind leadoff hitter Ethan Hoover, who led the Raiders with two hits in three at-bats. Landen Coples added an RBI, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate.

Jackson Taylor got the start for Woodington, striking out four over two innings, but Frink was able to capitalize early. Coples provided stability in relief, allowing just one run over four innings while striking out five.

Frink’s lineup showed balance throughout, highlighted by Smith their #7 hitter, who led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Parks, Sutton, and Williams each drove in a run, while Bryce Harrison and Smith applied pressure on the bases with multiple stolen bases.

Defensively, Frink turned two double plays to help maintain control, while Woodington recorded one.

Despite the loss, Woodington (5-1) had entered the matchup on a strong run, including multiple double-digit wins earlier in the season.

Frink (5-3) now builds momentum with a signature win — one that not only adds to the record column, but marks a breakthrough moment in the rivalry.
