GCMS Boys Rally Past Welcome, Roll Past Bethel to Improve to 9-1

GREENE COUNTY — Greene County Middle School’s boys basketball team showed both resilience and dominance across a pair of games last week, rallying from a large halftime deficit to defeat Welcome Middle School before following it up with a decisive road win over Bethel School.

GCMS earned a 49-44 comeback victory over Welcome Middle School last Thursday in a game that tested the team early. Welcome came out hot and built a commanding 32-16 lead by halftime, putting GCMS in a difficult position heading into the second half.

After the break, the Rams responded with a strong defensive effort and a renewed sense of focus, chipping away at the deficit and eventually taking the lead late in the fourth quarter. Once in front, GCMS never relinquished control, closing out the five-point win.

Josiah Joyner led GCMS with 12 points, while Kam Jones added 11 and Andre Jones chipped in nine. The victory served as a turning point moment, highlighting the team’s ability to overcome adversity and stay composed under pressure.

With the win, GCMS improved to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play at the time.

The Rams returned to action Monday night with a road trip to Pitt County, where they delivered a dominant 58-21 victory over Bethel School. GCMS controlled the game from start to finish, showcasing balanced scoring and defensive intensity.

Jayden Barnes led the way with 12 points, while Nathan Ross and Josiah Joyner each scored 10 in the win.

The victory pushed GCMS to 9-1 overall on the season.

GCMS will be back home Thursday night as it hosts Chicod Middle School, looking to continue its strong run of play.
