Kinston QB Tyler Jones Commits to Mars Hill
Kinston quarterback Tyler Jones has announced his commitment to play college football at Mars Hill, closing the book on one of the most productive passing careers in program history.
Jones leaves Kinston as the school’s all-time leader in nearly every major passing category. During his varsity career, he set school records for most passing yards in a season, most passing yards in a career, most passing yards in a single game, most passing touchdowns in a season, and most passing touchdowns in a career. He also tied the program record for most passing touchdowns in a game.
This past season, Jones led Kinston to the 3A state championship game, where the Vikings finished as state runners-up after falling to Shelby. Along the way, he helped guide one of the most explosive offenses in the state.
As a senior, Jones completed 270 of 403 passes for 4,424 yards and 58 touchdowns, finishing with a 67.0 completion percentage and a quarterback rating of 128.8. He averaged 276.5 passing yards per game and threw just 14 interceptions across 16 games.
Jones was equally impressive during his junior season, throwing for 3,069 yards and 32 touchdowns while completing 57.9 percent of his passes. Over 30 varsity games, he totaled 7,493 passing yards and 90 passing touchdowns, averaging nearly 250 yards per game through the air.
His production and consistency helped redefine the Kinston passing record book and elevated the Vikings to the state’s biggest stage.
Jones will now take the next step in his football career at Mars Hill, where he joins the Lions program after establishing himself as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Kinston history.
