Most Important Games
Tarboro (10/3): Huge for RPI and a potential conference title.
Kinston (10/10): A rivalry that’s gone back and forth. Kinston will be hungry for revenge after last season.
Wilson Prep (9/5): Early measuring stick for the Rams. The Tigers are talented and unpredictable.
Most Important Player
Dejuan Cobb (Sr., RB) – The heart of the offense. Some might argue it’s the offensive line — and they’re excellent — but Cobb is a game-changer. Pound for pound one of the best athletes we cover, he can outrun defenders, run through them, or make them miss in the open field.
Strengths
Dominant offensive line
Veteran leadership and experience
Depth across key positions
Weaknesses
Replacing defensive production from last year
Top Returning Players
Craig Whitley (OL): Senior leader anchoring the trenches with years of experience.
Kam Vandiford (CB): Long, fast corner who makes plays on the ball.
Devaun Brewington (CB): Underrated cover man who locks down his assignments.
Josh Cetnar (QB): First GC quarterback in years to start back-to-back seasons. Expect growth.
Sam Avent (WR): Polished route-runner, versatile athlete who can do it all.
Jason Wilson (TE): At 6’4”, 250 pounds, with blocking power and a big catch radius.
Elijah Phillips (OL): Physical enforcer, a “pancake machine.”
Underrated Players
Chris Dildy (LB): Physical hitter with a head-hunting style.
Nick Avent (LB): Athletic, versatile linebacker who can move around.
Tre Melton (DT): Big man in the middle who clogs gaps and disrupts plays.
Trey’s Take
This Greene Central team is built to make noise. They’ve got the offensive line, the depth, and one of the most explosive backs in the region. The key will be shoring up the defense as the season goes on.
If they stay healthy and consistent, the Rams are a dark horse in 3A — the kind of team that no one wants to see come playoff time.
Schedule Prediction: 8–2 Regular Season
Final Word: Greene Central has dudes. Now they just have to go play. They might be overshadowed by bigger-name programs in the East, but it won’t take long before people realize how good this team really is.
