Greene Central JV Wins Conference Title in First Season Back
Greene Central’s JV baseball team made the most of its return, winning the conference championship in its first season back in over 10 years under head coach Colin Lee.
“It was a great first season back as a JV program,” Lee said. “The guys we had were dedicated to working and being successful from day one. Couldn’t be more proud of the consistency of the work the JV guys put in throughout the season. Hard work always pays off, and it did with a conference sweep this year.”
The Rams went 3-0 in conference play.
They opened with a 20-0 win over Tarboro, as Slade Taylor threw a three-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Greene Central followed with a 7-4 win over Ayden-Grifton behind Clayton Little’s six-inning complete game with eight strikeouts.
The Rams closed conference play with a 6-3 win over Ayden-Grifton. Luke Wade earned the win with five innings and five strikeouts, while Jase Stroud recorded the save.
At the plate, Josh Cetnar (.833, 3 RBIs), Slade Taylor (1.000, 2 RBIs), and Zytrell Barfield (.500, 3 RBIs) led the offense.
Clayton Little added four RBIs, while Jesse Stroud and Jase Stroud combined for 13 walks.
Greene Central also picked up wins over West Craven, Northern Nash, and C.B. Aycock during the season.
“We still have plenty of work to do in order to get where we want to be in the future,” Lee said. “We’re looking forward to growing in the off-season and being back to compete next year.”
