Greene Central Shines in Field Events, Finishes Runner-Up in Boys Division at EPC Championship Meet
VANCEBORO, N.C. — In a championship setting loaded with speed, power, and grit, the Greene Central Rams rose to the occasion during the Eastern Plains Conference track and field championships at West Craven High School, delivering standout performances—particularly on the boys' side.
The Rams’ boys squad finished second overall with 112.5 points, trailing only Farmville Central’s dominant 205.5-point total. On the girls' side, Greene Central placed seventh with nine points, but showed promise in several individual events, especially in the field.
Williams Leads High Jump Unit to Podium Sweep
Greene Central’s Deitrich Williams and Desyah Wall soared in the boys high jump, clearing 6-4 and 6-2 respectively to claim second and third place. Jayden Lee also cleared 6-0, earning a share of sixth, contributing to a massive 16-point haul in the event.
Williams Doubles Up, Cobb Breaks 20 Feet
Williams wasn’t done yet. He added a third-place finish in the boys long jump (20-4), just behind teammate Dejuan Cobb, who launched himself to second with a 20-8 mark. Tre Bynum rounded out Greene Central’s scoring with a 19-0.5 leap, placing eighth.
In the boys triple jump, Williams again hit the podium, finishing second with a mark of 43-3, narrowly behind Farmville’s Elijah Able. Bynum added more depth with a 35-10 jump, taking seventh.
Chavez Anchors Throwing Events
Senior Jaylen Chavez continued to power Greene Central’s throws program, placing second in discus (137-0) and fourth in shot put (46-6). Craig Whitley (82-7) and Kadeen Sutton (97-3) contributed in discus, while Elijah Phillips added a 10th-place shot put effort at 35-5.
Vandiford Sprints to the Podium
In the sprints, junior Kameron Vandiford was a force in the 100 and 200 meters, finishing second in the 100 (10.97) and claiming first in the 200 (22.20). Freshman Ka’Zarey Farrior added a spark of youth, placing second in the 200 (22.67).
Relay Success: Rams Grab Gold in 4x100
Greene Central's boys 4x100 team flew to a first-place finish, clocking in at 43.26 seconds to outpace Ayden-Grifton and Farmville Central. The 4x200 squad wasn’t far behind, placing third at 1:31.44.
Middle Distance and Hurdles Bring Balance
Sophomore Ta’mari Wilcox took third in the 400 meters (52.08), while Donovan Ingram stepped up in the 300m hurdles, grabbing second with a time of 43.69. The 4x800 relay team finished third (9:14.96), and Dejuan Beamon and Bernard Joseph both scored in the 800m run, placing 9th and 10th respectively.
Girls Highlights: Smith, Evans Show Consistency
In the girls high jump, Aubree Smith cleared 4-6 for a fourth-place finish, while Gabrielle Evans placed sixth in long jump (14-9). Freshman Janiyah Sutton (10th, 1:06.58) and Zara Jones (13th in 100m) also showed potential for the Rams’ developing girls program.
In the throws, Kameshia Burney (9th, discus) and Makayla Riley (11th, shot put) chipped in vital contributions.
