Walk-Off Thriller: Woodington Raiders Rally Past Frink Cavaliers, Extend Win Streak to Six

KINSTON, N.C. — In a rivalry game that lived up to every ounce of drama, the Woodington Raiders stormed back from a five-run deficit and stunned the Frink Cavaliers with a 7-6 walk-off victory Thursday at Woodington Middle School. Cannon Sumner played the hero, delivering a two-run single on a full count with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to cap off a wild six-run inning.

It was the Raiders’ sixth straight win, improving them to 9-1 on the season, while Frink dropped to 7-6 with two games left against Contentnea-Savannah and Jones.

Frink seemed in control for much of the game, jumping out early and building a 6-1 lead in the fifth inning. Mason Murphy opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the first, and the Cavaliers exploded for five more in the fifth on just one hit—highlighted by Cooper Parks’ two-run single. Frink also drew 10 walks on the day and turned a double play, staying aggressive and disciplined at the plate.

But Woodington never flinched.

Jonas Joyner tied the game 1-1 with an RBI single in the third, and the Raiders erupted in the sixth. Behind five hits, including Sumner’s clutch game-winner, Woodington turned the tide and sent their home crowd into a frenzy. Sumner went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two walks, while Joyner finished 2-for-3 and led the team with seven chances defensively in the field.

Jacob Burkett gave Woodington a gritty start on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings with four strikeouts, while Landen Coples recorded the save. Jackson Taylor also pitched in relief. Frink’s Jacob Jones went four innings, allowing one run on two hits with five walks.

Jesus Aguilar-Rubio and Parks each tallied two hits for the Cavaliers, while Murphy and Parks drove in a pair apiece. Parks also swiped two bases in a losing effort.

Woodington will close out its season Monday at home against Jones Middle School. A win would cap a dominant 10-1 campaign for the Raiders, whose only blemish came in a 10-6 loss to Greene County. Frink will look to bounce back quickly with two games left to solidify postseason positioning.
