Greene Central continues to challenge itself against high-level competition, and that trend didn’t change this past week.

The Rams entered Thursday coming off a loss to South Central (7-0), a 5A program, and earlier this season had also faced Hunt (5-2). They were met with another tough test in unbeaten Rosewood (8-0). The matchup marked the first recorded meeting between the two programs since MaxPreps began tracking data in 2004.

Rosewood, a veteran group led by eight seniors, showed its experience in a 5-2 win.

The Eagles struck first in the opening inning and created separation with a four-run fifth, finishing with nine hits on the night. Greene Central answered with two runs and six hits but was unable to string together enough offense late.

Sutton Harris took the loss on the mound, working 4.2 innings while allowing five runs—only one earned—on seven hits, with four strikeouts and one walk. Logan Burress provided a steady presence in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two.

At the plate, Noah Roberson led the Rams with a 2-for-2 performance, continuing to show depth in the lineup. Logan Burress recorded the team’s lone extra-base hit, while Mason Dillon, Sutton Harris, and Will Radford each added a hit. Roberson also contributed on the bases with a stolen base.

Rosewood’s offense was paced by multiple hitters with two-hit performances, while Jack Adams drove in two runs to lead the Eagles.

Despite the recent losses, Greene Central has consistently tested itself against strong competition across classifications, including multiple 5A opponents and an experienced Rosewood team that remains unbeaten.

Greene Central will look to regroup and get back on track Tuesday when it hosts Tarboro.
