Greene Central Women’s Tennis: Rams Storm Burlington for NCHSAA 3A State Title Shot
Burlington, N.C. – At 9:26 a.m. on October 24, 2025, the Greene Central Rams women’s tennis team hits the courts at the Burlington Tennis Center for the NCHSAA 3A Individual State Championships, armed with a 16-3 record and a state-record 32nd consecutive Eastern Plains Conference title already in the books. This squad of seniors and standout sophomores has spent the season battling giants, and now they’re here to cement their legacy.
Coach Tim Medlin, the architect of this dynasty, sums it up: “We lost historic talent last year, but these girls stepped up, ranked No. 1 in 3A and top five in the coaches’ poll all year.” With six seniors – four in the starting lineup – and the Medlin twins, the Rams’ depth is their weapon. “Our No. 6 looks like a No. 1,” Medlin said. “That’s why we’re a problem for everyone.”
Senior Grace Baggett leads the singles charge, her 8-7 record earned against heavyweights like 8A Hoggard and charter school elites. She’s up against a tough draw, including NCSSM’s Regan Vandiver and Pine Lake Prep’s Mallory Aull. Sophomore Mallory Aull from Greene Central also steps into the singles bracket, her 5-1 record ready to shine against foes like Martin County’s Riley Cowan.
In doubles, senior Aubree Smith and Morgan Davis bring their 5-0 record and regional title pedigree to face pairs like Hendersonville’s Anna MacDowell/Sophia Gallian and NCSSM’s Emily Tang/Cora Wymbs. The sophomore Medlin twins, Caroline and Charlotte, with a 6-4 record, take on Mount Airy’s Lynn Meadows/Audrey Brown and others. “The twins’ biggest days are ahead,” Medlin said, “but they’re showing out now.”
The Rams’ 12-3 regular season (4-0 in conference) featured sweeps over Ayden-Grifton (9-0, twice) and Farmville Central (9-0), plus wins against Currituck County (6-3) and Northern Nash (8-1). Losses to Hoggard (8-1), Wakefield (7-2), and Epiphany (7-2) came against 5A, 6A, and 8A programs, proof of Medlin’s “we go hunting” mantra. “We played the toughest schedule in the state,” he said, noting only conference matches were 3A.
Medlin’s candid about the “charter school problem” – programs like NCSSM that stockpile talent. “It’s not level,” he said, but the Rams have pushed back, splitting matches with charters like Franklin Academy and Raleigh Charter. “They restock with state contenders; we’re teaching Greene County kids to swing.”
At their last practice, Medlin’s message was direct: “Play the fundamentals, don’t overthink it, let the pieces fall.” As Baggett, Aull, Smith, Davis, and the Medlin twins compete in Burlington, they’re carrying 32 years of dominance, with eyes on a state title to cap it. The dual-team playoffs await next week, but today, it’s about leaving it all on the court.
