Greene County Middle Opens Season with Historic Win Over Hope
Info submitted by: GCMS HC KJ Alston
Greene County Middle School started its season 1-0 after defeating Hope Middle School 16-6, snapping a 10-year drought against the Mustangs.
The Rams set the tone early when their defense forced a safety, led by Canaan Crowder, Alan Collie and Ashton Moye. Quarterback Luke Anderson later connected on several passes to move the chains before Kyler Davis punched in the game’s first touchdown.
Defensively, Greene County shut down Hope’s offense, forcing several turnovers and holding the Mustangs to just 35 total yards. Davis capped the game with his second touchdown, finishing with 160 rushing yards and both of the Rams’ scores.
“I think it was great for what we endured,” Rams coach KJ Alston said. “We were missing some starters and others stepped up. We won in the trenches and our defense played fantastic. We fix some small details, the sky is the limit.”
Greene County Middle will face Rocky Mount Prep next.
