KINSTON — History was made at Hope Prep on Tuesday afternoon. In just their second game as a newly formed athletic program, the Lions secured their first-ever win, defeating Coastal Brigade 37–32 in a thrilling finish at home.
Hope Prep, now 1–1 on the season, relied on clutch performances from its young roster, especially in the final minutes. With the game hanging in the balance, Camryn Davis and Kyler McNair stepped to the line and delivered, knocking down critical free throws to seal the victory.
McNair led all scorers with 22 points, while Davis added 11, and Owen Byrd chipped in 4 to round out the Lions’ offense.
This milestone moment comes after Hope Prep’s athletic director and middle school basketball coach, Andrew Worthington, reached out before the season expressing excitement for the school’s first year of sports and a desire to share updates, videos, and standout players. On Tuesday, his program officially entered the win column for the first time.
The Lions will look to build on the momentum as their inaugural season continues, but no matter what comes next, this win will be remembered as the one that started it all.
