KINSTON — Hope Prep continued its impressive inaugural season on Thursday night, capturing a 40–34 victory over Christ Covenant to move to 2–1 behind another balanced team effort and a strong closing stretch.
Kyler McNair led the Lions with 20 points, while Camryn Davis added 12, and Owen Byrd finished with 6. Hope Prep seized early control with sharp execution and energy, building momentum through the first two quarters.
Coach Andrew Worthington described exactly how his team set the tone in the opening half.
“We played really well tonight jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first half following a buzzer beater 3 pointer from Kyler as we went into half time,” Worthington said.
Christ Covenant surged back after intermission, adjusting their approach and making it a tighter game.
“Christ Covenant made adjustments at halftime and cut the game to 5 after 3 quarters,” Worthington said.
In the final period, Hope Prep showed composure and toughness, finding the stops and shots needed to put the game away.
“But the guys responded with a strong defensive performance all around and two clutch free throws by Davis to seal the victory,” he added.
The Lions continue to gain confidence with each outing, showing poise in close games and clear growth for a first-year program.
Hope Prep returns home December 5th to take on Wayne Christian. Girls tip at 4 p.m., with the boys to follow at 5 p.m.
