Lancers win the weekend series 2-1 over Brunswick CC

KINSTON, NC – The Lenoir Community College Lancers, boasting a 25-12 season record and an impressive 18-7 in conference play, thrilled baseball fans during an intense weekend series at Lancer Field. Taking on the Brunswick Community College Dolphins, the Lancers split the series, proving their resilience and determination in a display of powerful offense and solid pitching.

One of the standout players this season has been Kevin Jones, who has already hit seven home runs in just 38 games. This is a significant improvement from last year when he only managed one homer. Tanner Cannon and Logan Merritt have also contributed with seven home runs each this season, while Danny Staley leads the team with nine.

Logan Brown has been making a strong impression at the plate, hitting an impressive .394 on the season. Jones is right behind him with an average of .391. The talented Jones has committed to play for UNC Wilmington next season, where he will continue to develop his skills and contribute to his new team's success.

Recap of the weekend series:

Game One: Brunswick secured a 12-11 win in a hard-fought battle. The Lancers' leading hitters included Kayden Crawford (4-5 at the plate with 3 runs), Tanner Cannon (2-4 with a homer, 2 runs, and 5 RBI's), and Will Orr (2-5 with 2 runs). Tyler Thompson, Brady Tucker (L 0-1), and Tyler DeLuzio were on the mound for the Lancers.

Game Two: The Lancers clinched a narrow 4-3 victory with home runs from Kevin Jones, Kayden Crawford, and Logan Merritt. Jones, Crawford, and Merritt each earned an RBI for their homers. Brandon Warren, Colin Wyant (W 2-0), and Jarrett Hall (Sv 3) each had their moment on the mound, with Warren pitching five innings, giving up six hits, but only one earned run and three strikeouts.

Game Three: The Lancers delivered a resounding 22-8 win over the Dolphins on Sunday, with Kevin Jones (3-5, 5 RBIs, and a home run), Will Orr, Danny Staley, and Logan Brown making an impact at the plate. Cullen Tucker and Grey Gurganious showcased solid pitching performances, with Gurganious picking up the win after throwing 4.1 innings, giving up 3 hits, only two runs, and four strikeouts. Tanner Cannon also excelled, going 3-4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs.
