Lenoir Community College Volleyball Begins Practice: A Mix of Experience and New Talent

The Lenoir Community College (LCC) volleyball team took their first steps onto the court for the fall season's initial practice this week, filled with an amalgamation of experience and fresh talent. The team is fired up to improve upon last year's 8-17 record, backed by a more mature roster and strategic recruitment.

Headed by the powerhouse coaching staff of Coach Shelly Barnes, Coach David Barnes, Coach Charlie Cotten, and Coach Jorja Tuten, the team showcases a dynamic roster. Building upon the experience of last year's squad, where six of the nine players were freshmen, this year's team also welcomes promising recruits for the 2024 class.

In reflecting on the journey so far, Coach Shelly Barnes expressed, "We have been working hard with this year's team and have spent a tremendous amount of time recruiting for the 2024 class!" With the shared experience of last year's freshmen and the abilities of the new recruits, Coach Barnes showed her anticipation, "We are excited to see how their abilities complement our group of returners."

Equally optimistic, Coach David Barnes set clear expectations, "Our expectations are to play at the highest possible level this team can play at. If that means this team is capable of playing for the top position in Region 10, then that is what we expect to happen." Reflecting on last year's performance, he emphasized the importance of continuous growth, stating, "What would be unacceptable is for our team to play below its capabilities sending us to the middle of the pack or below."

In this fresh season, the Barnes' shared vision of not settling for less than their best is invigorating the Lenoir Community College volleyball team. As they embrace their first week of practice, their excitement to challenge the limits is palpable. With a more seasoned team and new recruits, the LCC volleyball community is all set to rally behind them as they step into the new season.
