Bethel Christian Academy leads the area's volleyball teams by reported winning percentage, while North Lenoir and Goldsboro share the lead in victories as September comes to a close.
Bethel's 9–2 record translates to an 81.8% winning percentage, just ahead of North Lenoir's 12–3 mark and 80.0%. Goldsboro is third by percentage at 12–5 and 70.6%.
C.B. Aycock has won three straight matches and owns the highest official NCHSAA RPI value among the 11 NCHSAA programs in this coverage group. Greene Central has won four in a row and sits one game behind its conference leader, while South Lenoir has recovered from an 0–4 start to reach .500.

Bethel Christian Academy
Overall: 9–2, 81.8%. Conference: 4–0, first in NCCSA A District 4, East Region. Comparable official RPI not verified.
Bethel has the highest reported winning percentage among the 17 teams and has swept all four reported district matches. The Trojans have won four straight overall, including Monday's victory over Fayetteville Street Christian. Both losses came against New Bern Christian Academy.
North Lenoir
Overall: 12–3, 80.0%. Conference: 5–2, tied for third in Three Rivers 4A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 21 in 4A, .58367.
North Lenoir owns the best winning percentage among the coverage area's NCHSAA teams. Nine of the Hawks' 12 wins were sweeps, and their season set record is 38–13. North Lenoir shares third by conference winning percentage with North Johnston, a team it beat in five sets. Return matches at Washington on October 6 and against West Craven on October 8 offer chances to answer earlier losses.
Goldsboro
Overall: 12–5, 70.6%. Conference: 6–2, second in Swine Valley 2A/3A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 18 in 3A, .55578.
Goldsboro has the most reported victories among Wayne County teams and shares the area's wins lead with North Lenoir. The Cougars swept their season series with Rosewood, but losses to Midway and Wallace-Rose Hill show where the conference race tightens. Goldsboro is 6–1 at home and has a 40–20 set record. A return match against league-leading Midway is scheduled for October 8.
C.B. Aycock
Overall: 11–6, 64.7%. Conference: 5–4, tied for third in Big East 5A/6A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 14 in 5A, .59328.
The Golden Falcons have beaten Southern Nash, Neuse Charter and Northern Nash in succession. The last of those victories came in five sets, reversing an earlier loss to Northern Nash. Aycock and Southern Nash both stand 5–4 in the Big East. An October 6 trip to Fike offers another opportunity after Aycock swept the Golden Demons on September 10.
Wayne Country Day
Reported overall: 10–7, 58.8%. Conference: 0–4, tied for fifth by winning percentage within its seven-school Coastal Plain Independent playing group. Comparable official RPI not verified.
All 10 of Wayne Country Day's posted victories have come outside its reported conference schedule. Four conference losses, including the latest against Faith Christian of Rocky Mount and Greenfield, have left the Chargers seeking their first league win. The September 28 match at Living Water Christian had no posted result when records were checked, so the overall total may be incomplete.
Wayne Christian
Overall: 8–6, 57.1%. Conference: 1–2, fourth by winning percentage within its five-school Coastal Plain Independent playing group. Comparable official RPI not verified.
Wayne Christian's conference victory required five sets, while its losses to Coastal Christian and Cape Fear Academy were sweeps. Six of the Eagles' eight victories came in straight sets. The next step is carrying more of that success into their conference playing group.
Greene Central
Overall: 10–8, 55.6%. Conference: 5–1, second in Eastern Plains 2A/3A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 30 in 3A, .49497.
Greene Central has won four straight and trails 6–0 Ayden-Grifton by one game. The Rams host the Chargers on October 1 after visiting Kinston on September 29. Greene Central's first meeting with Ayden-Grifton ended in a sweep, making the rematch a test of its recent improvement. Five-set victories over Farmville Central and Southwest Edgecombe helped fuel the current streak.
Faith Christian Academy
Overall: 6–5, 54.5%. Conference: 4–3, fourth in MACAA 2A. Comparable official RPI not verified.
Faith Christian Academy of Goldsboro has won back-to-back matches against Christ Covenant and Gramercy Christian. Three of its four conference victories went five sets, showing an ability to finish close matches. Conference leaders Community Christian and New Bern Christian have both swept Faith. Community Christian visits September 29.
Jones Senior
Overall: 8–7, 53.3%. Conference: 0–5, sixth in Coastal Plains 1A/2A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 27 in 1A, .43128.
Jones Senior went 8–2 outside the Coastal Plains before dropping its first five conference matches. All eight victories were sweeps, but the Trojans have won one set while losing 15 in league play. Jones begins the return portion of its conference schedule at East Carteret on September 29, followed by a trip to Northside-Pinetown on October 1.
South Lenoir
Overall: 7–7, 50.0%. Conference: 3–2, third in East Central 3A/4A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 25 in 3A, .51573.
South Lenoir has worked back to .500 after opening 0–4. Four of its seven victories came in five sets, against Farmville Central, Rosewood, Richlands and Dixon. The Blue Devils have been stronger at home, where they are 5–1, than away, where they are 2–6. Home matches against Heide Trask, North Lenoir and Clinton from September 29 through October 1 make this an important stretch.
Wayne Preparatory Academy
Reported overall: 4–4, 50.0%. Reported conference record: 1–0; conference affiliation and place not independently verified. Comparable official RPI not verified.
Wayne Prep has returned to .500 in its posted results, winning at Alpha Academy and then beating Riverside Christian Academy 3–1 on September 24. Its schedule lacked scores for August 24 against Living Water Christian, August 27 at Riverside Christian Academy and September 2 at Pine Springs Prep Academy. Those missing results could change the overall record. The posted 1–0 conference mark alone is not enough to establish a league position.
Rosewood
Overall: 6–10, 37.5%. Conference: 2–7, sixth in Swine Valley 2A/3A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 38 in 2A, .42874.
Both of Rosewood's conference victories came against Spring Creek, while the Eagles are 4–3 outside the league. Rosewood beat South Lenoir in August and took the rematch to five sets, but the conference schedule has been less forgiving. A September 28 sweep by Perquimans County was the latest reported result.
Ambleside Preparatory Academy
Overall: 2–7, 22.2%. Conference: 0–7, listed eighth in MACAA 2A. Comparable official RPI not verified.
The Archers ended a six-match losing start by beating Sallie B. Howard and Pamlico Christian Academy. They also pushed Faith Christian Academy to five sets before losing. Ambleside's latest posted result is the September 15 loss to Christ Covenant. Its schedule next lists John Paul II Catholic on October 1 and Pamlico Christian on October 2.
Eastern Wayne
Overall: 2–8, 20.0%. Conference: 1–6, sixth in Three Rivers 4A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 54 in 4A, .31201.
A five-set win over Kinston and a 3–1 conference victory at North Pitt account for Eastern Wayne's victories. The Warriors also took Southwest Edgecombe to five sets, adding interest to the October 1 rematch. Eastern Wayne hosts North Lenoir on September 29.
Spring Creek
Overall: 3–15, 16.7%. Conference: 0–9, seventh in Swine Valley 2A/3A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 55 in 3A, .31305.
Spring Creek's victories came against Southern Wayne, Union and Eastern Wayne. The Gators also pushed Hobbton to five sets on September 21, but have yet to win a set in their nine reported conference matches. Translating their nonconference competitiveness into league play is the next challenge.
Kinston
Overall: 2–10, 16.7%. Conference: 1–5, fifth in Eastern Plains 2A/3A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 54 in 3A, .32274.
Kinston's September 22 sweep at Tarboro produced its first conference victory. Its other win came against Eastern Wayne. Remaining conference matches include home dates with Greene Central, Beddingfield and Tarboro, giving the Vikings opportunities to improve on their first trip through the league.
Southern Wayne
Overall: 0–14, 0.0%. Conference: 0–9, seventh in Big East 5A/6A. NCHSAA RPI: No. 54 in 5A, .30447.
Southern Wayne is seeking its first victory. The Saints have won one set in their reported matches, against Wayne Country Day on August 12. Northern Nash and Fike are the next scheduled opponents, followed by C.B. Aycock on October 8.
What the RPI adds
C.B. Aycock's .59328 is the highest official NCHSAA RPI value in this coverage group, followed by North Lenoir's .58367 and Goldsboro's .55578.
South Lenoir shows why overall record and RPI do not always move together. The Blue Devils are 7–7 but rank ahead of 10–8 Greene Central in the 3A table, .51573 to .49497. The official table gives South Lenoir the stronger opponents' winning-percentage component, .54970 compared with Greene Central's .43598.
