North Lenoir Boys Tennis Secures Fourth Straight Conference Title
North Lenoir’s boys tennis team closed the regular season by doing what it has become accustomed to, winning the conference.
Despite dropping two tight non-conference matches late in the week, the Hawks responded with a 7-2 victory over North Johnston to lock in their fourth consecutive conference championship. North Lenoir finished a perfect 10-0 in conference play and 13-5 overall heading into postseason competition.
At the top of the lineup, Casey Alston and Maddox Smith delivered a historic season.
Alston (15-0) and Smith (17-0) both went undefeated in singles play, while also finishing 10-0 together in doubles at the No. 1 spot. The accomplishment marks the first time in the 30-year history of the North Lenoir tennis program that both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles players have completed the regular season undefeated while also going unbeaten as a doubles team.
For Smith, it’s the second straight year finishing the regular season undefeated at the No. 2 singles position. Alston’s undefeated run at No. 1 is also a program first.
North Lenoir is now projected to land a top-10 seed in the upcoming 4A dual team playoffs, which begin April 27. Individual regionals are scheduled for May 1-2 at Barton College.
