Woodington rallies early, pulls away late in 13-3 win over Jones Middle
Woodington shook off an early deficit and delivered a complete offensive performance Thursday, defeating Jones Middle School 13-3.
Jones struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a Woodington error along with a single from W. Cox and a walk by I. Richards to take a 3-0 lead.
Woodington answered immediately.
In the bottom half of the first, Axel Ard sparked the response with a double down the left field line. Winston Faircloth was hit by a pitch, Owen Houston followed with an RBI single, and Mason Miller drew a bases-loaded walk as Woodington pushed four runs across to take control.
The momentum carried into the second inning, where Woodington extended its lead. An error brought in two runs, Houston added another RBI single, and a wild pitch plated one more to make it 8-3.
The Raiders put the game out of reach in the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits. Jackson Taylor highlighted the inning with a two-run double, Mason Schmick added a two-run single, and Houston drove in another run to cap the scoring.
Woodington finished with 10 hits on the day, led by Houston’s three-hit performance. Taylor, Schmick, and Houston each drove in two runs, while Landen Coples added two hits in three at-bats. Daelin Tyndall reached base multiple times and helped fuel the offense as Woodington drew nine walks as a team.
On the mound, Ard started and worked one inning, allowing three runs, none earned, while striking out three. Carter Thomas, Tyson Whaley, and Cole Johnson combined in relief to shut down Jones the rest of the way.
Jones managed just two hits in the game, with Cox and Richards accounting for both. Despite drawing nine walks and swiping six bases, Jones was unable to generate sustained offense after the first inning.
Woodington also applied pressure on the basepaths, stealing six bases, with Tyndall and Houston each recording multiple steals.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Woodington and provides a strong bounce-back performance as the Raiders regain momentum.
