North Lenoir Clinches Conference Title, Extends Win Streak to 14 with Sweep Over Washington
SNOW HILL — Another night, another sweep for North Lenoir volleyball. But this one meant more. The Hawks didn’t just win — they officially clinched the Three Rivers 4A Conference Championship with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-20 victory over Washington on Tuesday night, extending their win streak to 14 matches and their set streak to 39 straight.
The victory pushed North Lenoir to 17-1 overall and 10-0 in conference play, while also moving the Hawks up to 9th overall in the state and 3rd in the East RPI rankings. It’s the latest milestone in what’s been a near-flawless run for head coach Heather Carson and her team.
“I think we are playing very well defensively,” Carson said. “We’re getting our passes there, our sets there so Lakyn can hit the ball, and Camryn did a great job at the net too today.”
It was a complete team effort once again. Lakyn Whitley powered the offense with 17 kills, continuing her dominant senior campaign, while Camryn Jenkins added 10 kills and 12 service points. Kennedi Starkie finished with 6 kills, Sky Doyle tallied 32 assists, and Haley Hemby contributed 10 service points and 5 digs in the all-around performance.
What’s separated this North Lenoir team from the rest of the conference hasn’t just been talent — it’s been consistency and focus. The Hawks haven’t dropped a set since August 20 and haven’t shown signs of letting up, even with the conference title already secured.
When asked how she keeps her players locked in through a long win streak, Carson smiled. “They just want to win,” she said. “They want to keep winning, and they play really well together on the court.”
For Whitley, that mindset is shared by everyone wearing green and gold. “I just try to do the best I can to help my team,” she said. “Whatever I can do to help us win and keep going.”
The Hawks now turn their attention to the final stretch of the regular season — a road match Thursday at West Cravenfollowed by Senior Night on Oct. 14 against North Johnston. With the playoffs approaching, Carson said her group knows exactly what’s at stake. “We just want to stay focused and keep the momentum going,” she said. “They work hard at practice, and we just want to take it game by game.”
As North Lenoir’s streak climbs and the postseason draws near, one thing is clear: the Hawks are playing their best volleyball when it matters most — and they don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.
