Greene Central Boys Win Conference, Girls Secure Third Place

The Greene Central High School boys' track team clinched the conference championship, scoring 123 points and leaving their closest competitor, North Pitt, trailing with 109 points. The Greene Central girls' team finished third, with Farmville Central and Washington claiming the top two spots.

"Super proud. I had guys step up and do things today that really helped the team be successful. It was all about the team and doing what needed to be done for the team to win the championship," said Rams boys head coach Jay Wilson.

Notable performances from the Greene Central boys included James Ballard's third-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.44 seconds, Jon Willis' first-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.18 seconds, and Okie Edwards securing fourth place with a 23.08. DJ Williams placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.52 and finished first in the high jump with a height of 5'8". Ezequiel Roman ran a 2:21 in the 800 meters, placing fourth, and secured second place in the 1600 meters with a 5:18. Brandyn Perkins finished fifth in the 110 hurdles with a 17.81 and fourth in the 300 hurdles.

The Greene Central boys also won the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.07 and the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:30:35. In field events, Montreal Yancy Moore finished third in the long jump with a 19-11, Desmond Cobb finished second in the triple jump with a 41'06, Zyon DeBerry finished third with a 41'05, Jalen Chavez won the discus throw with a distance of 139-01, and Isiah Campbell finished fifth in the shot put with a 43-03.

On the girls' side, Rylee Greene finished fourth in the mile with a time of 7:43 and in the two-mile with a time of 18:35. The girls' team also finished second in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:58. In field events, Anylan Albritton finished fourth in the high jump with a 4-04, Zakayla Smith finished with a 14-09, Marshaylah Sutton won both the discus throw with a distance of 109-02 and the shot put with a distance of 36-03, and Alicia Pridgen finished second in the discus with a distance of 88-00 and third in the shot put with a distance of 30-02.

The regional competition is scheduled for Saturday, May 12th, where the teams will look to continue their strong performances.
