Raiders Rally Late, Then Roll in Doubleheader Sweep

WOODINGTON — Woodington Middle School delivered two very different victories on Monday, showing both late-game resilience and early offensive firepower in a doubleheader sweep at Woodington Middle School.
Raiders walk it off against AG Cox
Woodington needed a dramatic finish in the opener, rallying in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat AG Cox 4-3 in walk-off fashion.
Trailing 3-1 entering the final frame, the Raiders turned the game around when Taylor delivered a clutch double that drove in three runs and secured the victory.
AG Cox built its early lead by scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning before adding two more runs in the second. A single by #5 helped push the lead to 3-0.
Woodington chipped away before its late surge and received strong work on the mound to stay within reach.
Faircloth earned the win, allowing six hits and three runs over two innings while striking out one and walking two. Ard provided key relief, tossing three scoreless innings while giving up three hits and striking out four without a walk.
Taylor led the Raiders offensively with three RBIs, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate. Whaley showed patience in the batter’s box with three walks as Woodington drew eight free passes as a team.
AG Cox collected 11 hits in the game, led by #5, who went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot. #1 added two hits in three at-bats, and AG Cox also turned a double play defensively.
Big first inning powers Woodington past Jones
The Raiders wasted no time in the second game, erupting for seven runs in the first inning on the way to a 13-2 victory over Jones Middle School.
Taylor started the scoring with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Coples and another run-scoring single by Tyndall. Houston added a two-run single before Herring capped the inning with a two-run double.
Woodington added six more runs in the fifth inning to put the game away. Faircloth delivered a two-run triple, Herring drove in another run with a single, and two Jones errors allowed three additional runs to score.
The Raiders finished with 12 hits in the game.
Herring, batting ninth in the lineup, led the offensive effort with three RBIs while going 2-for-2. Hoover, Houston, and Herring each recorded two hits.
Woodington also played clean defense, turning two double plays.
Whaley earned the win on the mound, throwing two hitless innings while striking out four and walking one. Faircloth added one scoreless inning in relief with one strikeout.
For Jones, Cox drove in a run and went 1-for-2. Downs, Weston, and Cox each recorded a hit.
