Six-cessful Theft: Patriots Nab 6 Runs, 23 Bags, and One Big W

KINSTON, N.C. — On a night filled with emotion and celebration, the Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots delivered a complete team performance, defeating the Coastal Carolina Centurions 6–2 on Senior Night.

The Patriots honored seniors Jojo Ferebee, Jaylen Solomon, and Cade Mixon before first pitch, and the trio made sure their farewell at home was one to remember.

Parrott wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Tanner Outlaw executed a perfect bunt single to score Ferebee, setting the tone for the night. The Patriots added two more in the second inning, capitalizing on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Ferebee to take a 3–0 lead.

Coastal Carolina responded in the fifth, loading the bases and pushing across two runs to trim the deficit. That’s when Ferebee, already making an impact at the plate, stepped onto the mound in relief of starter Jarett Mooring. With one out and the game tightening, Ferebee picked off a runner at second and needed just one pitch to induce a groundout, ending the Centurions’ rally.

Parrott answered back immediately in the bottom of the inning. Solomon lined a single to bring home Ferebee, and Mixon followed by reaching on an error that allowed Solomon to score. The Patriots tacked on their final run in the sixth, thanks to a leadoff single by AB Daughtey and some aggressive baserunning by pinch-runner Nick Blair, who stole second, third, and scored on a passed ball.

Parrott stole an eye-popping 23 bases on the night, creating constant pressure and capitalizing on nearly every opportunity. Head coach Robert Kravitz praised his team’s mindset.

“Just a lot of grit,” Kravitz said postgame. “Guys came out ready to play. I thought they were very aggressive on the base paths — we swiped a few bags tonight, and I think that put us in a great position to score runs.”

Offensively, Outlaw led the way with a 2-for-4 night and an RBI. Ferebee went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Solomon added an RBI hit, while Mixon contributed two walks and drove in a run. Daughtey had a hit, a stolen base, and scored once.

On the mound, Mooring tossed 4.1 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, and striking out five. Ferebee closed out the final 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.

With the win, Parrott improves to 14–8 on the season. They’ll head to Wilmington on Thursday for a rematch against the Centurions before closing the regular season against Wayne Prep.

For the seniors, the night was about more than just baseball.

“It was just a team effort,” Mixon said. “Everybody came together on Senior Night and played fundamental team baseball.”

Ferebee credited his teammates after shutting down the Centurions' rally: “I was pitching and they were hitting the ball, but my defense was good behind me. They didn’t make mistakes and kept runners off the bags.”

Solomon, reflecting on his approach at the plate, kept it simple: “I was disciplined, saw a lot of balls, sat on strikes, and put the ball in play.”

It was a night of heart, hustle, and hometown pride — and a fitting way to send off the Patriots’ senior class.
